Are we talking OT fans or armchair fans? I think even the majority of English people who describe themselves as a Man U fan are a result of their success over the last 20 years, let alone before you get to all the foreign fans.

you were not talking about OT fans or armchair fans. you were talking about the 'vast majority' of man utd fans are since the fergie years. Which is totally wrong, even when man utd were shit in the 70s and 80s we were still up there in the top 2 or 3 average gates in the country.

Even if Man Utd go the same way they did in the 70s and 80s they will still be up there with the best supported teams in the country.

I have not seen a big decline in liverpool fans around the country since 1990.

When and if Man Utd take their cyclical turn at being (relatively) shit, they will no doubt lose lots of UK armchair supporters who never go to a game in their life, as well as fans all over the world who will change alliegance. Not to miss the new generations who will choose whoever is the dominant force at the time.

However, Man Utd are so well supported that they can lose many thousands of fans and still sell out Old Trafford every week.

IMO ticket pricing and policy has the potential to affect Man Utd attendances on match day, more than their position in the league.

Man Utd  #MoyesIn

Good to see the refs have mostly lost their fear against Man Utd since Fergie left to. Moye's rants don't seem to be having the same impact as Fergie's  The Man Utd fan rants on 5 live yesterday made for great entertainment. They don't seem to know how to acept a bad run of form.

Delirious optimism for tonight's semi final has firmly settled in. Roger Johnson to score the leveller!

Sounds like Hitzlsperger is coming out - pity he felt he couldn't do it whilst still playing.

That won't be the last ex-WHU to do that either.

The reason why specifically* WHU players don't while at that club is because the club is the opposite of supportive.

(*I know that's been the case at WHU. I don't know the situation at any other club).

Moyes - "we have to play against the officials" - last 17 pens awarded in Man Utd league games have all been for them (via twitter)

how many of them have been this season?

Cos when Utd were dominant the claim used to be that got so many more penalties because they spent so much more time in the opposition's penalty area, so it would be interesting to see how the penalty awards go when (now) they're just an average team.

In regards to Hitzlsperger, i can't say i'm particularly bothered by the news, if anything, i'm more upset at the attention it's getting, than overjoyed, that's not because i'm homophobic, i'm far from it, my point being that i know several gay people, and have no problem with them, i'm sure everyone on here does too, do you make a Big deal out of it? No, because homophobia is a thing from the 70's, and all the media pressure on there being no gay footballers, must have made it 10x harder, but they're only the same as us, so why so much pressure. Fair play for coming out to the lad, and I sincerely hope he gets no stick for something he should be proud about.

Really, don't be so naive.

If homophobia is a thing from the 70s, why are gays still (currently) discriminated against in law?

And if homophobia is a thing from the 70s, I guess that means that there's never been a gay footballer until very recently - and now with Hitzleberger there's two of them.

Perhaps those two should couple up, eh? ;)
