Will be interesting to see Neils views on sterlings dive in the morning.

I think we know the answer.

In the words of Ralph-Utd-Fan, if there's contact the player is entitled to go down. Who's rules are we using for my opinion? :P

If I want to see a proper dive, I'll watch Tom Daley, Young, Januzai, etc ... they're no fun to watch when there's beyond-doubt contact.

What are peoples thoughts on the Tiote "goal"? Right decision I thought. But only just.

Hes standing in the 6 yard box in between the posts. Even it makes Hart hesitate for 0.000001 of a second hes still interfering with play.

And considering he actually had to dodge the ball its the right decision. Had to have made Hart hesitate?

on the basis of just about ever other decision in recent years, that was the wrong decision.

There's countless goals scored & allowed nowadays where people are really blocking the goalie's view - and none of those Newc players were blocking Hart's view.

I don't much like how the offside rule is done nowadays, but if they're going to be consistent with it then that should have been a goal.

Its a dodgy area yeah. But (I think) the rule is "interfering with play". So if his position made any difference to Hart then hes interfering with play and its not a goal.

I agree with that and that's why I think the offside law as it done now is wrong ... but I've not ever seen anything like that happen in recent years, the goal has always been allowed.

As Pardew said yesterday "the linesman got it right and the ref got it wrong".

The way the law is worked nowadays - as explained by refs - that should have been a goal.

Cant think of another one where a player has been standing in the goal in the 6 yard box 3-4 yards offside on the same side of the goal that the ball went in and its been given?

I can't think of any specific examples, but I know I've seen a lot of them - because the ones that have jumped out at me are the ones where an attacking player has been (unlike yesterday) blocking the goalie's view. Edited by eFestivals
