nah, it's not - that's the beauty. No pressure means they can go out and perform at their (perhaps) best without worries. A higher finishing place is better, but anything above 4th is a bonus.

The pressure for Liverpool this season has been about a top 4 place and nothing more. After yesterday's games they've just about guaranteed that now, as it's difficult to see any of the lower teams being able to make a meaningful challenge for top 4 now.

So they can play with freedom and aim for the title, and have no shame if they come up short (which I suspect they will). It's as pressure-free as any team is ever likely to get.

I think now the chance to win the league is more an ooportunity than a pressure.

yeah, me too.

As I say I can't see them doing it, but what makes it interesting is that they could do it. As things stand right now Liverpool are able to finish higher than Chelsea and Arsenal, and City only need to drop 2 points for L'pool to be able to overhaul them too (and I can see City dropping two points somewhere).

And remember I said that Soton would finish higher than Utd and everyone laughed? Just wait for the finishing positions.

I cant see Moyes leaving before the end of the season, there seems little point

It depends who they might have identified to take over and when they might be able to start. If the replacement is currently unemployed, I'd get him in there asap to look over the current squad, cos there's a fuck of a lot to do.

If they wait till the summer it just about guarantees that Utd won't be doing better next season because someone just arrived is not going to be given the freedom he'd need for the clear-out that's needed.

Don't forget that a major part of the squad wants replacing just because they're out of contract and leaving (for free, too). So there's the best part of £100M to spend before starting to think about doing something with the many shit players on longer contracts.

he inherited a title winning team that lost no players of note, and has spent £65M on that team, and it's got massively worse.

Utd can think that Moyes has a huge job on his hands or Utd can think how the job can be made much easier.

If Utd get beat in the CL this week (quite likely given how poorly they're playing) then I can easily see Moyes out of a job before next weekend. I'd say it's 80%+.

These fairweather man utd fans should be ashamed of themselves leaving en masse before the game has finished. Talk about deserting your team as soon as the chips are down. Taking losses on.the chin.is what the rest of us football fans have been doing for years

This, along with his book, has to my mind tarnished his whole reputation. A lot of the blame for their downfall has to be laid at his door even though Moyes hasn't helped.

The difference between him and Shankly - Shanks laid the foundations for Paisley to win absolutely shit loads. Fergie laid the foundations for Europa league (at best) football.

Bizarrely I can see them beating City.

The shitter sides often win at home in derbies.

Yes they are. I suppose my point is that Fergie could and should have left the squad in better nick than he has. His main strength was always continuity and building new teams. The youth he'd brought through/in to replace his last team weren't good enough. Smalling/Jones/Fabio/Cleverley etc etc and he realised that so bailed. (or if you were being harsh, knew he was going so didn't try to get better in).

In the past his youth waiting in the wings have been far superior which is what led to the dominance not being short lived. The fact that last season you won the league relied on RVP and Shrek - both of whom have been out loads this year - and other teams being shitter than expected, has been accentuated this year and for that reason I stand bu the fact that for me, his reputation has been tarnished.

Fair enough the Shankly comparisons were misplaced bollox but I stand by my general point. And this from a Liverpool fan who had the utmost respect for him as a manager. Couldn't stand the fucker like, but jealousy is an ugly thing.

Im not sure what to make of the Hull rebranding story. While I do think that owners shouldn't be able to come and piss on a clubs traditions. There is an element of hypocrisy with the fans of teams like Cardiff and Hull who moan about the owners but are happy to take the money. Would the traditionalists like to return to the lower leagues where both sides have traditionally spent a good proportion of their history.

I think a lot of them would. I know a couple of Hull fans (admittedly true diehards) who, though obviously grateful for the money, would honestly rather be in League 2 as Hull City than premier league as Hull tigers.

I also think the FA shouldn't allow it as it paves the way for potential new owners to bail out clubs in trouble, but only if x, y or z.

I'm a Sunderland fan, and i can honestly say i would be called Sunderland Black Cats and play in pretty much any sponsored stadium (as long as it wasn't embarrassing) if we got a large investment.

As long as they didn't call us something stupid or call the SOL something stupid or change the colours we play in or drop the Sunderland bit i really couldnt care less

each to their own though

May not come as a shock to some but the telegraph is showing conclusive proof that Qatar paid bribes to win the world cup.
