A bad game or two at City could just about be the end of any further chances a kid like that, whereas at Utd (unless a disaster) he'll get plenty of games and a decent chance to prove himself.

From many angles he'd be better staying at Soton for at least another season, but there's no guarantee a club of Utd's statue will come knocking again at the end of next season, and the opportunities at any club that might may not be as clear-cut as the vacancy at Utd right now.

It's a bummer for Soton if they lose Lanana as well this summer, but if I was Shaw I'd be off to Utd right now if I could be.

Impatience, both he and Southampton are riding the crest of a wave but with their financial issues they may not be able to keep up with the pace and a couple of poor seasons for them could damage the interest in him.

Shaw does offer 8-10 years steady service in that position. Considerable gamble tho. Only a few clubs able to make 27million gambles on left back teenagers.

It is an obscene amount of money, but maybe they have to offer that much as his release clause is £15 mil.

Man utd have made to many 'gambles' last few years, for example the likes of Nani/Anderson both near 20m.

They will get plenty of practice

they got plenty of defending practice this season, tho it didn't seem like it helped them.
