True, but I reckon (and I may be wrong) if you take into account total income vs outgoings plus a parachute payment if (when) they are relegated they'd have more money than if they hadn't been promoted.

If I am right, therefore, Holloway has been sacked for making them more money than he would have if they'd not been promoted.

Palace haven't really spent, which is why they are where they are....(I don't doubt abit more has been spent but they seem prior to this not to be going for broke to stay up). Which makes the decision even more weirder, I sort of get sackings when a team is clearly underachieving but he seems to be doing just about as good as anyone would expect.

Given the financial constraints I don't think Clough did a bad job at Derby.

As for Pulis, I'm not so sure he wouldn't take the Palace job were he to be considered. If he kept them up he'd be the first Palace manager to do so for years and years. If he doesn't, well he wasn't expected to anyway. Besides, can't see many better openings for him. I know he's from Newport but even that's less of a shithole than Middlesbrough...? :P

Looking like it will be a better year for English teams in the champions league, its hard not to see Man u, Man C and Chelsea not reaching the last 16 now the group stages are at the halfway stage. Arsenal clearly have a much tougher draw and will likely need at least a point at Napoli to get through. As usual the group (moneymaking for big clubs) stage looks like it will be quite predictable in sending the usual suspects through.

As I'm off away tomorrow morning I'd best mention this now while I remember. Saturday is a big day for many of the smaller football teams around the English football league system. It's the 4th qualifying round of the FA Cup with the prize for a victory a place in the First Round Proper.

Best of luck to everyone, with special mentions to Marske United, Brislington FC, and Hartley Wintney, who are the last remaining sides in the competition that play as low as the 9th tier in English football. Hope that one of them wins through and gets a plum draw against someone like a Wolves.

Love the FA Cup.
