NorthernSoul52
Hmm, disagree there. Think there's some of the latter-day stuff among his very best. Push the Sky Away, I Need You, Night Raid all up there for me.
russycarps
The usual rules apply: the songs that are popular with the masses are usually the least interesting of an artists catalogue. Into My Arms Red Right Hand Whereas Ghosteen Night Raid Sun Forest Are far more interesting. But there's no right or wrong answer with Nick, all the albums are ace. Even Nocturama has it's charms. DIg Lazarus is my least fave, but it is still good. Such a shame he didn't get to headline Glastonbury. I guess it's a different festival with a different crowd these days? (I am not sure, I don't know anyone who still goes). Edited October 11 by russycarps
NorthernSoul52
Mmm, concur.
DomDom1984
Jubilee Street was probably my favourite song when I seen him. I think in the middle of the set would be a nice spot for Into My Arms.
NorthernSoul52
Yeah, I don't think it should be your closing note. Ending with Push the Sky Away isn't necessarily the answer for me either though. Think I could settle for an elongated take on The Ship Song.
Toilet Duck
Anybody know if the Palaces of Montezuma that has appeared at the start of the first encore recently is the Grinderman version with the band or is it Nick at the piano à la Idiot Prayer (either way great to see it in the set, just a different energy depending on how it’s performed!)…

I think something like Hiding All Away would be a good closing song. As someone said on earlier on, they've got the gospel singers on this tour... Yep, I also really like There is a town and Still in love for personal reasons. But the awfulness of Rock of Gibraltar overwhelms the whole album for me... I can't agree with your last statement though as I think Ghosteen is the best album he's ever done and one of the best albums ever full stop.. But i think you need to study the background of each of the songs to appreciate it fully, and who the hell has time to do that apart from Cave obsessives, so I get why it's not at the top of everyone's list. Avalon_Fields
I love White Elephant off Carnage, so powerful, menacing even. I probably got Ghosteen wrong, I'm going to make a bigger effort with it.

I came back to have a peak at the headliners thread, presuming that finally everyone would be clamouring to have Cave headlining after the release of the superb and crowd pleasing Wild God, but I see people are demanding the likes of Harry Styles instead. It's like the 2013 Cave/Mumfords debacle all over again.

Will see them indoors in a few weeks in Dublin anyway, but my fondness for the other stage has been reignited by the new sound system, much better than it used to be and perfectly happy to spend headliner time there! When did they change the sound system on Other? It was excellent for QOTSA in 2023.

I've not been for quite a few years now so guess I've missed the fancy new sound system. But it would be madness for Cave to be on a smaller stage than someone like Harry Styles. Though i did see someone in the headliners thread confidently declare Styles will be viewed as the equal of Bowie in years to come, so perhaps I'm out of touch. Ah listen, I’m with you, but in reality, much as I firmly believe NC&TBS can headline the pyramid, they seem to be repeatedly cast as subs and given that option, I’d prefer to see them in the dark at the top of the other bill rather than in daylight surrounded by folk just waiting to see whoever is coming next. (I’ve nothing against Harry Styles, but comparing him to Bowie is peak eFests hyperbole and you are most certainly not out of touch to wonder at the validity of the statement!). I agree (the national looked great on the telly last year), but I really thought this time was different. Nick Cave is massively famous these days and hugely critically acclaimed. This album is much more accessible than his past few, his songs are played in lots of popular telly series and films, he's selling out big venues.... I thought all the pieces had fallen into place. But it seems not. Not that it's any of my business really.

Nicklord
Just saw the show in Prague. It was amazing as usual. I'd say pretty much on par with the previous arena tour from 2017. Highlights would be O Children, Jubilee Street, Papa won't leave you Henry, I Need You, Conversion, Cinnamon Horses (unexpected highlight!) - from the new songs the only one I thought didn't work live was Joy. NorthernSoul52
Ah, that's grand to hear. Bar Joy - hope it does figure out in a fortnight.

I was watching videos from some previous shows today. Didn't want to spoil myself before except the setlist. It seems they are trying different arrangements for some songs every few gigs. Final Rescue Attempt especially, sounded like 3 different songs so far. Into My Arms as well even.
NorthernSoul52
As Final Rescue Attempt is a weak link on Wild God for me, I'm not opposed to that experimentation. I feel the setlist has slightly regressed as the tour has gone on. Don't think it'll be down to Colin necessarily being green on the arrangements - strikes me as a smart fella.
