Fuck's sake. This is appalling news. The O2 is a terrible venue for Cave, will cost a bomb and can't even imagine how Skeleton Tree will go down in that cavernous space.

Hoping for some kind of warm-up gig or special one-off.

Yeah, not happy about that at all.

So... Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - 2017 UK Arena Tour.

Never thought I'd say those words.

Confirmed venues so far:

The O2, London
Manchester Arena, Manchester
Motorpoint Arena, Nottingham

Unconfirmed, but heavily expected.

The SSE Hydro, Glasgow
Brighton Centre, Brighton

Presuming that they are lower tier only shows for the major arenas, you're probably looking at about 30,000 tickets being available. (I believe the capacity for All Time Low's standing-and-lower-tier only show at Manchester Arena was 9,300 or something. For NIN in 2014, it was 8,500 (rear lower tier seating curtained off if I remember).)

I thought I'd seen you post that o2 is decent arena before no? (I've never been, being a scummy northerner).

Not for nick cave though, not skeleton tree. It's a fuckingg cavernous space - will be good for the louder more anthemic songs but not skeleton tree

Interesting tidbit - both Manchester Arena and Nottingham Arena have now removed their tweets featuring the announcement picture. Eventim's own Twitter feed remains with the logo emblazoned as does The O2. Somebody jumping the gun I guess?

Hoping this announcement comes tomorrow then, properly, for a Thursday/Friday onsale next week.

Manics only played there when they were playing every single they'd released though.

And they didn't do it in chronological order so everyone didn't fuck off after design for life.

hehehe, yeah, I was there for that. I'll be honest, went on a bit. I had a terrible, terrible hangover and man, I could have done with it finishing early.

Manics have a bigger fan base here than Nick Cave for sure - they were pretty massive in the 90s.

you reckon? I reckon now it's pretty similar. Look at their placings at Glastonbury etc, not so different. And I think they've been on the wane for a while, why NC remains more consistently relevant. Certainly there was a difference, but as the Manics wane, and have to do more things to garner ticket sales (20th anniversary of EMG etc), Nick Cave topped loads of 'album of the year lists etc. I think the gapbetween the two acts is closing. And I still find it hard to get my head around the idea that The National played the o2. Maybe that's a better comparison.

I was at the O2 gig for The National and I seem to remember it didn't feel completely full in there. I also saw Suede at the O2 and that was far from full either. If it doesn't sell out they just close off the top tiers.

I don't actually dispute the Bad Seeds' level of fame in comparison with others that have played there. I guess I always just felt they'd rather do a few dates at the Apollo, RAH etc and that they didn't like arenas.

It's really hard to imagine Cave getting down the front like he usually does. Maybe that's the point and he wants a bit of distance.

He is doing arenas in Australia right now and he is pretty much in the front rows like always

Hell, he could play in a barn or Wembley Stadium for me, it's Nick Cave. The last holy grail of my musical bucket list to buy (and then subsequently see of course).

Not sure if Nick Cave has an arena album as such, but I'd probably look at Lyre as the best example from this century. Few tracks on there that would translate well.

You're right, the only problem is he doesnt seem to be playing a single song from that album on this tour!

I see on their last gig (31 Jan) they opened with anthrocene>jesus alone>magneto. I just cant comprehend that in the O2.

That being said, I've seen leonard cohen in the o2 and he managed to make it intimate, so I'm sure it'll be great.

I mocked up my own setlist pre-tour which had Abattoir Blues, There She Goes and O Children in it, and I think they'd fly well in an arena.

But as you said, that opening trio in an arena - even with the top tier curtained off? It's definitely a gamble for a man whose always put out a great performance, judging by videos and records (never seen him, so maybe I'm not in the position to praise him.)

You saw the Leonard Cohen one? Would love to have seen him properly. I worked at the First Direct Arena when it opened, and snuck out on shift to sit in the gods for Hallelujah.

Can't see anything from Lyre/Abbatoir being played on this tour. I think the setlist we've seen in Australia is basically what were getting.

I saw Cohen at the O2 as well and you're right that he was great. I was seated for that gig too. Still not convinced by Cave in there, but I'll obviously take it over nothing.
