I would like to see stagger lee, red right hand and tupelo ditched (even though tupelo has sounded better than ever this tour I think...). But then I would not like to see mercy seat ditched so I dont really know what to think. I dont think deanna is played at every gig is it?

I dont get the feeling they are a band who play songs because they feel obliged to, so they must enjoy playing those songs.

where the hell has this babe I'm on fire love come from???

if we are requesting songs from henry's dream then I'll take when I first came to town please. Love the way that builds up to the angry climax.

0.01% chance of getting it though I suppose.

.

I'm still expecting the whole album as the "support act" to the main show on Sunday. And a "21" cake big enough to give us all a slice.

They didn't do Deanna last night. I chuffing love Tupelo so not sure about losing that.

That reminds me - here is the actual list from last night - did things in a bit of a different order as well as the omissions/additions.

I believe that's my fault. I expressed my undying (and very much continuing) love for it in another thread and Rebecca has backed me on it ever since. Plus, it's fricking amazing.

RRH is definitely not exciting NC anymore. He came as close to dialling in a performance as I've ever seen during it on Saturday. But there were several tourists in the crowd who only stopped talking (or, I kid you not, proclaiming it a "waste of time", "boring" and "not even music") when they played it (I should stress that the girl making the last comment was with her boyfriend who was clearly embarrassed by the stupid bint and I assume he placed red roses on her corpse as she drifted down the Thames in the early hours of Sunday morning) demonstrating how unnecessary, perhaps apart from at festivals, it's become.

That setlist is easily as good as saturdays. But then you arent likely to get a bad one I suppose. I would have subbed out love letter though for almost any other slowey though. Sigh.

I think you should get a ticket tonight, especially if you live close ffs. I am coming all the way from SE London!

I suspect babe im on fire is the reason blixa left the band...

Don't tempt me! I live in Shepherds Bush. It's going to kill me not to go.

Also my ears are well and truly fucked.

Eh? There's a story I don't know here...

Also, although not a favourite of mine, I thought Love Letter was excellent on Saturday.

ha no story, I made it up. But it doesnt seem like his kind of song does it? Plus that video....

Yep, love letter was great, but I did feel a twinge of regret when it started, thinking what could have been! I'm never happy basically.

And shepherds bush!! You could walk it for goodness sake!

I was home in 15 minutes yesterday. Quite satisfying seeing all the other losers queuing or the tube! But I need to save myself for next Sunday I think. I also couldn't sleep after either gig, which is not sustainable.

Weird that there was a torrential downpour on leaving both times. Can't help but feel Nick arranged it somehow.

I know what you mean. Is it a middle-aged thing? Short of a 100 song setlist that I'D devised I'm not sure how I could make myself satisfied. Even then I'd probably focus on my inability to put The Carny in the right place, or for using Shane MacGowan as a guest in the 2nd encore when it would have been so much cooler to "waste him" about 5 songs in!

Rebecca - Shepherd's Bush?!! I didn't even realise that you were Australian before! If you can get someone to cover your shift at The Walkabout, you should definitely go tonight.

an aussie who thrashes around on the floor chucking shoes at people...what an interesting picture is emerging

I think we should have a competition to make video impressions of Rebecca, based on the information gleaned off these boards. If Rebecca enters, I reckon she'll come about fourth!

of babe I'm on fire?

well it's an ok song off one of the weaker albums. I mean I dont hate it but there are about a hundred songs I'd rather see live...

So, you're going with the 101-song-setlist, are you? Interesting work, Russy... Could I go for 102? I think I can. Yup. I'll name that setlist in 102 tracks. Ball's back in your court!

I think it just about saves the album. Without that song, I reckon the cd would just gather dust in my drawers now. Dead man in my bed and still in love decent too I suppose but definitely the worst I've got.

I quite like there is a town, but it doesnt really feel like a bad seeds song. I only ever listen to the album when I play all of the albums in a row on my ipod.

Shoot me down is one of the better songs, but it's a b side!

You know, every time I read this thread, I think I really must give the latest album another go, and every time I do, i realise I can't get into it. I'm clearly missing something here. Don't know what to do about it. I've had a really good crack at it, but it's just not pushing my buttons.

Did you see him at Glastonbury? It took me longer to get into than his other albums but seeing it live did the trick.

After this week's gigs I listened to it this morning and I really love it now. It's in the bloodstream. I think it could end up even being a favourite.

PS. I love Nocturama too.

It's not one of his albums I listen to much now I must admit. The songs are much meatier live. But on record you have to be in the right mood for it I think.

One of my friends doesnt like it much either (apart from jubilee street). He says it's just a bit too bland for him, and he goes mad over that finishing jubilee street song, says it's the worst most self indulgent thing he's ever heard :sarcastic:

Ha - Finishing Jubilee Street is one of my favourite songs on the album! I like that self-referential kind of thing though.
