Nick Cave

Midnight Man

You see, I'd rather Kindness of Strangers than Stranger Than Kindness. That song's amazingly powerful in my eyes.

I adore Stranger Than Kindness. Loved it last Saturday. I know it's not his lyrics but I love them, so haunting. There are so many songs I want on Sunday it's ridiculous.

Murder Ballads is my least favourite Cave album. I decided at the weekend.

I've not been keeping a eye on the setlists but the 2 mentioned are what stood out as being different from Glasgow. My Barrowlands judgement is a bit impaired though as I got mortal drunk with a certain WJokersAttack off here before hand. Haha.

Got in to both gigs for free. Messaged the support act (who I think are ace!) saying how I was a big fan but couldn't really afford it and she put me on the guestlist for Glasgow. Met her in the lower echelons of Barrowlands afterwards and mentioned I lived in Edinburgh so she asked if I wanted the same again the next night!

A good gig - even a very good one - but not a GREAT one. It was good to hear Breathless (surely the most poptastic, easily transferable to the Top 10 song that Cave has ever written) and God Is In The House, but I was less enthralled with the full band version of Into My Arms, the drums seeming to detract from the power of the song. Midnight Man I could take or leave. Maybe it was the wrong venue for it - the Usher Hall's high ceiling seems to nullify the atmosphere of even the best performances.

And a really awkward moment during the switcharound on Give Us A Kiss when someone in the audience could be heard loud and clear shouting for Mick Harvey.

Mrs CG definitely seemed to be feeling the IT that Rebecca and Russy were talking about a few months back, though.

Yeah - I definitely enjoyed myself, but doesn't compare back to seeing them, like, a decade or so ago.

Thanks for the review. Shame you weren't feeling it as much as everyone else seems to be. When did you first see them? I'd say my first was a decade ago now but last weekend far eclipsed it.

That IT factor is damned potent stuff.

Interesting to hear about into my arms, was just Nick on piano when I saw it. probably the set list I would have least liked to have seen. Midnight man, there's loads better than that seems an odd inclusion.

I'm surprised more people don't shout Harvey or blixas name to be honest, probably half the crowd don't know who they are though...
