How do you explain Glastonbury to someone that's never been there? What do first timers think?

This was my first Glasto and it was definitely more overwhelming and massive than this forum had prepared me for. Luckily there were very few must see bands for me and so I was free to wander aimless which was great! I mainly just chilled in the green fields or stuck near one or 2 particular areas each day. The Babylon Uprising tent had some incredible djing and I stayed there for maybe 2 hours one day just chilling. That was some of the best time of the festival for me. I tried to wander around and see at least a tiny bit of each area, but that was next to impossible. I didn't even get out to the south east corner which is probably my only regret.

To sum it up I would say that is is even more overwhelming than anyone will prepare you for, and that it is NOT mainly about music. Music is only a small part of it. I enjoyed the craft and circus fields and the general ambience of the festival even more so than the music in many ways. Also the best shows for me were the more intimate ones, and the random acts I stumbled on. For example, the Stones were fun, but by no means the highlight.

My Dad, who went for the first time this year, summed it up better than I ever could; "I've never had a day where I have loved every second, and smiled from the moment I wake up, to the moment I fall asleep".

Took to old newbies this year one 46 other one 50 males. They have been sat in the pub for years saying why would you pay £200 odd to sit in a muddy field etc etc... Anyway finally got them to come this year. When we arrived on Wednesday morning just cresting the hill at Pilton their faces when they saw the size of the place was amazing. We parked up, got in and set up we told them of main area's where we meet etc. told them go and wander if you get lost txt and we will get you. Not one txt message all weekend they wandered around wide eyed all weekend amazed at the size and friendlness of the place (excpet Silver Hayes they hated the vibe there). Met them when the music came on at the normal places where we watch and they would just babble at us what they had seen and done.

Took them for a walk around the SE area early one evening they looked like little kids in a sweet shop "can we go in there" "whats that" "How are they allowed to do that" " can we have a go" brought big smiles to may face every time.

They were determined to watch what they had circled on their clashfinders so on Friday they were rushing round like blue arsed flies and then realised it just wasn't possible. They then relaxed and did as we did and just bimbled around with a plan to watch 3 acts a day then anything else is a bonus.

On the Monday morning I asked them both what is the most negative thing about Glastonbury and they both answered at the same time "Leaving" and the most Positive thing " Everything"

Sums it up I think

Two more tickets to fight for in Oct
