Latitude 2014

Just found out I've won two tickets from a competition in The Times at the weekend :)

Most chuffed. Will be dragging along my 16 year old son for the ride. Time to do some research I think. I may be back with questions!

HAVE A READ AT http://www.mytimesplus.co.uk/public/offers/win-tickets-to-latitude-festival Times+ members can win a pair of adult guest weekend tickets to this year's Latitude festival, giving them access to the main festival, guest bar and guest camp-site.
so it is the VIP area

Oooo... This one is for Times+ readers whereby mine was normal Times so it may be different but I wouldn't have thought so :)

I'll have to see if I can find last week's paper to see what it said.

As much as i like the idea of winning tickets, giving my money to Rupert Murdoch is a no no.

A fair point and I can't fault you on it. Sadly, the number of papers that I can stand to read is now down to 2, The Times, Guardian and i. The weekend edition of i is a bit lite on content, the Mrs doesn't like The Guardian so I get The Times on Saturday.

Nope - Just been rummaging in the recycling bin. Standard tickets only, Time+ readers can win Guest tickets.

:(

Never mind. Still chuffed.

sorry about that - what a pain in the arse but I have one word of consolation
The Guest bar is £0.20 more expensive than the normal bars so this way your saving money.
next year look out for Competitions run by official sponsors - see home page at the bottom for a list as they are more likely to hand out Hospitality tickets.
well you never know - I know a few years ago that one of the mobile Companies were handing out ten +1 tickets { so a pair of tickets }
some years at certain events { has to be double checked each year as sometimes they don't do it } Carlsberg goes one better - winners get a +1 ticket and a Golden Pass - amazingly this allows a person ' unlimited ' free access to the Guest Bar ' - now you would think people would be ordering all sorts of fancy orders but most Golden Pass holders just stick to their normal order - I reckon they are so shell shocked that it does not sink in that they could be in there all day and just get out their head.
I remember the first time they handed them out because no one at Carlsberg let us know that there would be some showing up with a Golden Pass and the first people to walk in to the guest bar at Glastonbury got knocked back and they had to pay for their drinks - I did not see it but I did overhear them { Golden Pass holders } talk about it so I asked them to hand me one and I took it to the Site Manager { has control of all the bars at Glastonbury } - he did not have a clue either but he called up Carlsberg HQ and they did not know either but they did mention there was a few reps on site so we went hunting for them - anyway we tracked them down and they confirmed that was a genuine Golden Pass so I went back to the Guest bar got all the staff together and showed them the pass and then returned the pass and the cash they had paid to the Golden Pass holders.
Carlsberg since then send a genuine Golden Pass in advance so at least we know what they look like.
The bar keeps a bar tab and at the end of the event its passed to Carlsberg HQ and they pay the bill.

I need to like Carlsberg's social media pages I think, imagine winning festival tickets and a golden pass for booze!? Cheapest festival ever!

well you have to watch out as they dont do it every year but I reckon they will be pushing Somersby Cider big time this year.
now that looks like a rerun of Tuborg
in the 70's imported Tuborg was the big thing in Clubs
taste absolutely nothing like Tuborg draft does today and I have still to get my head round why they bother as Carlsberg draft is a really nice drink but they are determined to make Tuborg a hit
I am not a cider drinker and will never be a cider drinker but I suspect that they will be pushing it the way they have done in the past with Tuborg so it will be interesting to see what the Customers think.

Yes I've never understood why they seem to want to change to using Tuborg everywhere. They've started offering Somersby in Football stadiums now to, I've had it once and it's slightly better than Magners as its less fizzy/acidic but I wouldn't choose it if there was a choice.

any real ale choices at latitude? surely theres adnams what with the brewerey being virtualy next door!

The guy who owns the estate { on behalf of his father } is called Hektor and he has his own brewery
now I dont drink Real Ale but I know its very populer and each year it sells out
Other ales come from Green Jack and Oakham.
Big Note - due to the demands of the Promoter some Bars are very small so if you are after Real Ale pick the larger bars.

I had a pint of Hektor's last year, it's rare I don't finish a pint, but I only got about 70% of the way through when I decided that it wasn't working out between us. I did treat myself to multiple pints of lovely Hobgoblin though, I think I drank so much that I actually saw a hobgoblin during Hot Chip.

cheers chaps, guess the promoters/sponsorship influence available drinks, just a shame there isnt an adnams tent or something what with its history with southwold..

Well if it was not for Hektor { I personally know Hektor } there would be no Latitude - he is the son of the so-called “Aussie Earl” he moved to Suffolk from Melbourne in Australia to take on the management of the family’s 3,500 acre site near Southwold in 2004.
His father really wanted him to sell it but Hektor wanted to make a go of it and he was the one that hunted out Melvin - in the 90's the Mean Fiddler used to hold the Phoenix ' the same weekend that Latitude is now held ' hence why its held when its held although I think Melvin thought up the name as well.
I am not getting into Beer Contracts and sponsorship as its all very complicated with contracts running for many years - in 2006 I suspect without sponsorship it would have made a loss and I doubt his father would have kept supporting him - he now has plans for a new hotel and spa and when his dad was over he came when Latitude was on and was well impressed .
Hektor is a grafter and you can see him diving about all over the place and even serves up some pints himself.
I know he did approach some local Beer Companies but they were not interested - I am sure they are kicking themselves now but before the first Latitude was held no one had a clue how it was going to turn out so they were not willing to gamble .
Hektor's is sold at other events where he has a 50% share of the ale sales.

Morning after ale poos are definitely not desirable at festivals, but I never learn from my mistakes. In an uncivilised natural world I'd be dead, as it stands I'm just a mess.

Yep. You can often smell the ale drinker in your part of the crowd. Many people may retch but I silently salute you, as you have been a braver man than I.

My girlfriend has bought us tickets to this but were going to be going on holiday instead now. Would anybody like to buy the tickets at a slightly cheaper than usual price? Email me on davebehave@btinternet.com if so. Apologies if im not allowed to advertise this on here. Any suggestions on where would be a good place to advertise would be helpful. Cheers

Interesting stuff Glasto-worker, good old hektor!

Hektor sounds like a good egg.

Being from Glasgow all these titles don't wash with me and I was expecting a right w*nker - he had spotted my post on a Latitude web forum and contacted me with regards the WBC.
He showed up at the bar with a cask of Ale - did not have the heart to tell him I was a lager drinker next thing I heard he was married and he dragged his poor wife to my remote bar just so she could meet me - he also pops up at Glastonbury although he is not daft as he camps in the Hospitality area but I am working on him .
He is a really nice guy and he does work 24/7.
top shot is from latitude { its the back of the guest area } - he nips about in that all the time.

Never seen any Oakham but I believe some of Heckors beers are made 'under license' at Green Jack for the festival, as his small microbrewery would not cope for 35000 people at Latitude!

Did see Hobgoblin last year and one year Adnams Bitter was on at one bar on a Sunday...but definitely not Oakham
