the wonderwhy
Wrong month. No wrong thread (For some reason I thought I was in the IOW section...)
Amy Lawn
I think the Black Keys are about the right size for a Latitude headliner, I wouldn't be there though, I find them really dull, but it's a good call for a realistic headliner. the wonderwhy
Black Keys were pretty bad at R&L, although I reckon they'd up their game for a headline slot. Where would The Horrors place? 6 Music headline?
Amy Lawn
Black Keys were pretty bad at R&L, although I reckon they'd up their game for a headline slot. Where would The Horrors place? 6 Music headline? They headlined R6 in 2012 when it was The Word Arena (if my memories are not too foggy), they've not released anything since then, so I'd guess their stock has only dropped at this point, of course that would likely change if they release a successful album between now and then. They've got an album due early next year I believe. Was supposed to drop September-ish time but they pushed it back.

Too big i'd have thought. More likely to headline something like Reading or Glasto ( Not that i would agree with that, but they are that size)
mrtourette
Not really big enough for that, but yeah probably too big for Latitude (although I think the latter is more likely than the former). If headliners teare bands that crossover to R&L they tend to play third, Black Keys are higher than that. While Arcade fire subbed R&L and headlined Latitude in the same year I think that's the only occasion.
the wonderwhy
what are we thinking for tomorrow then? Not a lot of hints around- the only potential headliner that have dates announced in Europe for Latitude weekend is Phoenix. There's not a lot around the weeks either side too. Obviously there's Pixies and I think Franz Ferdinand are at Optimus. Could be an interesting announcement

Obviously there's Pixies and I think Franz Ferdinand are at Optimus. Could be an interesting announcement I'm hoping for a surprise by a band/act that hasn't announced touring plans yet, such as Portishead/Massive Attack/Morrissey/David Bryne/Flaming Lips or even something totally out of the blue like Eric Clapton or Tom Waits. Franz Ferdinand have headlined before (Latitude are yet to repeat a headline act) & Pixies playing Field Day makes them unlikely but not totally impossible. I think it will be Manic Street Preachers though. (assuming only one headliner is announced.) I'm pretty sure Goldfrapp will be there as well, although I'm unsure if they're still big enough to headline. Tuna
The fact they're announcing early screams to me it'll be a ticket shifter. Someone like Portishead.

Are Franz still headline size though? I'd have thought they'll have been knocked down the pecking order a bit at most fests now. Would be a decent sub. I just really want to see Pixies

Tom Waits would make me buy a ticket tomorrow if he's announced. No questions asked! Haha
the wonderwhy
Any chane of The XX headlining this? Its definitely one of the festivals most likely to bag them as headliners first. Not sure what they're doing next year. How about The Cure as a bit of a 'surprise'?
kwassa1
Its definitely one of the festivals most likely to bag them as headliners first. Not sure what they're doing next year. Yeah I was thinking where else could they play, considering they like it to be dark. This would seem like a reasonable option. There will probably be at least one contemporary artist won't there? Either XX or Bombay

kaosmark2
I doubt they are tbh. They did their Night + Day thing this year, fests the year before and I imagine they'll probably work on a new album.

Isn't there rumours of them doing a new album? Maybe they won't be doing anything

Yeah you're probably right, a new album would be even further justification the bump up to headline as well
kaosmark2
I think it'll probably be headlining Bestival in 2015. It'd be quite a coup for Latitude to get them even now.
the wonderwhy
Yeah, I think Bombay are more likely anyway and I can't see them both doing it. Bombay, Manics, Portishead/Pixies/whatever would be cool
dentalplan
Doubt it will be Pixies. I'd probably go for Portishead, Bombay and Phoenix currently. Phoenix just because they're around and stuff, not convinced they'd be big enough to headline a festival here yet. Got a horrible feeling that the third down we know at R+L might turn up in a headline slot. Praying he doesn't...
