justanothername
I'll still end up going though so I dunno why I'm moaning The same reason why most of us on here are moaning, we don't like it very much but a few of us will still up for going is the main announcement turns out fine To be honest my mine problem with that announcement is that they could have easily made it better for more people by removing those acts no one has ever heard and replacing them at least one heavier (like the acts me, Hart and Andre wanted) and a alt rock name that would have impressed a different group of people. It seemed target to one group of people really, not the whole R&L demographic (but then again I maybe speaking crap)

Hopefully they pull something out of the bag for the last, big announcement.. We can hope anyway!
Jacksamthompson
Mumford is a pretty shit headliner. Will be a good sing along but the demographic of the two days is going to be a massive contrast. Other bands announced make up for it though. Catfish will probably get a good slot. and drenge. Andre91
The contrast between Mumford and Metallica's demographic isn't really any different than The Cure and Kasabian, or Green Day and Eminem.
tyranicide
I was disappointed too, but I'll still end up going. The music isn't as important to me as it was last year as I had such a good time
Matt42
I think that is what R&L want though, if they want the festival to survive they need to establish themselves as a festival that meets a multitude of demographics. If you want your festival to be stable you need to have headliners with contrasting demographics, you need to book royal blood and deadmau5 in the same year... Matt42
Festival market isn't the same as it was 10 years ago, people with a complete diversity of music tastes are now attending. Reading wants to be the one (even more than glastonbury arguably) that caters to all, and it's doing the right thing.
dentalplan
I agree. That isn't relevant to people here not liking the acts announced though. Also justanothername I can't show how Drenge is playing because it's gone and disappeared. Apologies.

Mumfords are a solid booking for that.

Ok by all I mean of the younger demo but I can't see a lot of older goers picking reading in the first place. Of the "youngun's" there's a massive rock/metal, hip hop, pop, dance and indie scene and reading is clearly trying to get a mix of that! I have no objections tbh, if the fest stayed the same we'd have more and more repeats. After it's settled in I reckon last nights announcement was a good one, three massive bands which sell tickets on reading exclusive is surely gonna draw a lot of audience. Heck it says a lot when a fair chunk of V goers now go to reading because it's more diverse!

Or is that glastonbury Could see St Vincent at reading massive hype from NME, and Hot Chip can play anywhere they like Edit: I may have been sniffing glue St Vincent appears free to play Edited February 3, 2015 by Mezhyp1

mrtourette
Uninspiring - thanks to Neil Mumford were known and the other 'big' names like Royal Blood, Bastille and C and the B aren't any surprise at all. Deadmau5 is probably the most interesting but even that booking is two or three years after people were really on about him.

JSmurphy
Don't particularly want to trawl through all the posts since the announcement last night, but could someone please clarify for me if Rebel Sound are headlining NME or Dance? JSmurphy
Ahh sweet cheers cragzy, thought they'd be a weak NME headliner, and that makes a deadmau5 and Knife Party scenario a bit more plausible, fucking hell would I be pleased with Knife Party / Metallica / deadmau5. Chavmeisterdeluxe
Deadmau5 almost certainly will be although I don't think it's been specifically mentioned yet.
