And in 2009 The Prodigy weren't held back for R&L to sell more tickets for IOW, which they were headlining, so history rules out your prediction as much as mine.

True, and they weren't held back for Download either (also a Live Nation/FR run event), but in 2009 in fairness it was a different market/selling product. Reading was a hot ticket to have, sol don the day etc, lineups defo considered stronger. So discount all that they aren't doing now, you are almost left with two options Reading or Glastonbury on the Sunday which would mean The Chem Bro's would have to play Saturday and even then two dance acts two nights running is pushing it! Even if they had a later tour to announce, IOW would have put the Biffy tag of English Exclusive on them if they could.

Surely The Vaccines wouldn't miss Reading and V... Seems strange, got to be at one but can't seem them slotting in at V anywhere. Think reading and V might still be having a bidding war over them and that's why reading have special guests so if they don't win the bid they can put alt-j there because FR has them for latitude. Don't think this is the case but just a thought I wanted to put forward :)

Nope, The Vaccines don't have that pulling power, they're playing 8th place down a bill as a UK fest already.

Latitude announce at 12pm on BBC6 music.

I know, but that won't tell you anything you need to know about R&L, you already know Alt-J won't be announced on a English Fest exclusive, unless in the most unlikely scenario Glasto don't have them.

What?

Gaz suggests it won't be alt-J because when they've had Latitude headliners on the undercard in the past they haven't been held back.

I'm saying when they had The Prodigy sub in 2009 whilst they were headlining IOW they weren't held back.

No, I mentioned the lack of headers of Alt-J recently to turn up at Reading. That isn't my reason for why I don't see it being them. I just see there being a good chance of a different act.

IOW isn't run by FR, no shit!, because we needed that clarifying haha

I'm going to assume you meant headliners of Latitude.

2014 - none

2013 - Foals

2012 - none

2011 - The National

2010 - none

2009 - none

2008 - none

2007 - Arcade Fire

That's 3 Latitude headliners in the last 8 years who've turned up at Reading, and the rate at which they're turning up isn't slowing down, so I dunno why you mention "recently".

Edit: And by my estimation, 13 of the other 21 headliners in those years are unsuitable for R&L, so that explains why most of those didn't turn up.

Haha, Latitude indeed lol. Recently I did think after was the wrong word to use but I couldn't be arsed to change it. Either way, none of them have have waited, whether Latitude or Reading announced 1st and both of then have a duty to sell tickets. This is the reason why mostly, I'd find Alt-J an odd 1, apart from the point they're boring and generally rubbish too haha

What was you going to say Mr SOAD?, something similar to what Matt came up with I would expect?

I was just gonna make a comment like Will did... was gonna go with the idea it's happened 2 times in the last 4 years so I was going to say it's actually been happening more often recently than prior to 2011

edit: Latitude headliner being at Reading that is

It has, my mistake on that point. Are Alt-J and Peace likely to clash?

Right so now you are using the fact that it hasn't before? In which case, The Prodigy weren't held back in 2009. I'm not saying it won't be them, just that this reasoning for it not being alt-J doesn't work for me.

Doubt they would clash. Peace have Limp Bizkit and Knife Party on after them, so they'd probably finish not long before alt-J begin.

I'm not using anything in that statement dude, don't read what isn't there. It's simply to say both have a duty to sell, regardless of which fest announces 1st and neither of them have held back names. This is nothing to do with The Prodigy, they are purely my own hunch at the sub. It doesn't have to work for you lol.

You realize how things are that about half of the Piece set will clash with the sub that day yes? Even if Mumford only play an hour and a half, there will still be a crossover time of 15 minutes to get from one to another, and if Knife Party did only get an hour set, there is an even bigger crossover regardless. This can't be avoided, due to set times, 3rd NME down NME clashes with main stage sub. What band do you reckon slotted into that sub position would make this clash irrelevant? Again, not saying it will be ;P

Well then I just don't understand why you're bringing up the fact that they've never held back their bands that are also headlining Latitude.

Mumford - 9:30-11:00

alt-J - 8:00-9:00

Knife Party - 10:00-11:00

Limp Bizkit - 8:15-9:30

Peace - 7:05-7:45 (dunno how long NME subs get)

Something like that? Or even if Limp Bizkit only play an hour, have Peace finish at 7:55 or something. I don't even think a Peace/alt-J clash is that bad.

I'm going towards Ben Howard as the sub... Was thinking about him playing a bit lower before his arena tour got announced and was probably rightfully shot down at the time as he doesn't really fit the festival. However, since he doesn't seem to be at any of the bigger fests in the UK, his arena tour is doing really well and that he would suit subbing Mumford & Sons I'm sticking with him. He's been announced for a few smaller things like Citadel and Eden Project so maybe he is special guests to give them a bit of a chance to sell and for the arena tour to fully sell out.

Do you go from headlining a 10k fest to subbing 2 80k fests?
