dentalplan
If Coldplay offered to play Reading I doubt FR would say no... but they wouldn't so that's probably why they aren't very likely to play. Okay well some people are of the opinion that there are some MOR 'indie' acts that are given a wide berth by R+L because their fanbase is less represented by teenagers and more by Radio 2 audiences, Coldplay being top of that pile. Some people also initially thought Mumford and Sons were that sort of band too, and often explained as much when saying it. I think the inclusion of electric guitars to their act might have quelled that problem a bit or it was in fact bollocks all along but there you go. You did understand after all. Mouseboy11
Yeah I never understand that criticism, since Reading has had plenty of Indie-less rock headliners. Mumford & Sons are a massively popular UK band, I can't understand why anyone would consider them unlikely or not suited for Reading. (not directed at you, but more of a statement) Just a stick to beat them with for people who don't really like them anyway

Even without the inclusion of electric guitars i'd still say they were suitable to Reading, as a lot of Reading's demographic do like Mumford and Sons. ClemFandango97
I don't mind the new Mumfords album too much, Wolf and Ditmas are decent tunes, but it is fairly run of the mill isn't it? Despite the inclusion of electric guitars it still sounds pretty similar I think, although I'm no expert and haven't really listened to any of their other albums. Matt42
A lot of Readings demo likes Coldplay Not doubting it, but I think a huge factor of Coldplay not ever headlining Reading is probably because they don't want to / they can choose something that will probably get them more coverage and money. Yellow_Fellow
Like what, Glastonbury? Possibly the only other festival that fits that description?
thetime
Coldplay have hardly done the festival circuit since they hit headliner status. Apart from Glastonbury you probably count them on one hand in this country. They haven't headlined V in over 10 years, iow once and reading never. I agree, one of my favourite tracks on the album is Only Love which can just be described as like a lot of their others (starts slow then building up) but with electric guitars instead of acoustic. I do like the album but then I like the other two as well . Don't think the album as a whole will change any opinions, one or two tracks people might like but don't think many non Mumford fans will be converted by the 'change in direction'. Gucci Piggy
I like it when a band that has a lot of haters is discussed, and any criticism of them is dismissed at "People just hate them and will find anything bad to say about them" yadda yadda. Look at Reading lineups. It's perfectly understandable for people to question whether they're suitable.

Gucci Piggy
All I know of Travis is that my guitar teacher made me learn a Travis song in like year 7 and it was rubbish. He also made me learn Nickelback, Green Day and Oasis

charley
Travis were massive at that time though. I don't recall many people being stunned at them being headliners I was more surprised by Blink getting it last year. People like different stuff, the bookers know what they are doing, they know what sells. I'm no more a Metallica fan than Mumford, but obviously other people are (each to their own, there is always something else on) or they wouldn't book them. lightning1000
Ok, I'm just going to say it. The new mumfords album has grown on me to the point where I actually quite like it. Obviously believe sucks balls, but a lot of it reminds me of the turn of the century American indie bands.
Chavmeisterdeluxe
Don Broco on t'radio saying they've "1 or 2 big festivals" left to announce so I guess we should still expect them to slot in somewhere. Probably announced after Slam Dunk.

dentalplan
Fascinating. I listened to the WATO album stream 'cos of the lead single and some good reviews but it hasn't really turned my head much despite the promise of the lead single. It's certainly something that should go down really well with R+L people though; there are shades of Muse and Royal Blood and ting and there's also an acoustic song that's equally as bad as Frank Turner's stuff so yeah cool brilliant.
