According to our tame security guy who gave us a round up every morning, a 16 yo girl died Friday night at Leeds as well as a 40 yo woman who OD'd. People were injured when the silent disco ad a partial collapse in the rain also. On the plus side they had their first birth on site on the Friday night. Who goes to a festival expecting? That's dedication!

Regarding the security guy's knowledge and the story about somebody drowning (can't multiquote on my phone) there are rumours about people dying quite often at the festivals for some reason. After The Libertines I heard from a few people that there were varying between 1 and 4 fatalities, when in fact there were none. I don't really know why this happens.

Very sad to hear that there have been though and my thoughts are with their families.

Tragic news. Stuff like this really puts a damper on the weekend.

When my friend went to the medical tent at Reading, there were a few girls there mid recovery recovering having each been giving cigarettes by an older guy which were laced with something. Terrible to hear some of the stories of the weekend.

Boomtown's facebook was splattered with comments after this year's fest saying "so sorry to hear about the four people who died". Just one person died. While that's terrible in itself, it's more the result of govt anti-drugs policy than it is festivals.

Only yesterday it was revealed that the numbers dying from "legal highs" has doubled in the last year - and that's because as each "legal" is outlawed, something else comes along. These means that few people ever get to find out what the bad effects of any new drug might be, which gives no one any chance to treat that drug with respect. They don't know what they're taking or how to take it safely - and that will always lead to problems.

Back in the days when drugs were a simpler thing to become knowledgeable about, it led to drug-takers having respect for the inherent dangers of the drugs they took.

hmmm, you sure they hadn't merely had puff on a spliff which they couldn't handle?

It's been a while now since I've seen the claim, but it used to be a regular on here with people claiming that there was weed around that was laced with heroin ... when all it really was was decent weed, much stronger than those people had ever experienced.

The idea of hash or weed laced with anything that's stronger than hash or weed is the most ridiculous claim around. It's something I've heard claimed at various points during the last 30 years, and there has never ever been a single jot of evidence to back up that claim.

Ha yeah that 15th pint of Guinness I had last night must have been laced with vodka because it sent me right over the edge.

yep, exactly that sort of thing.

I'm pretty sure that most of the claims around 10 years ago of drinks being spiked were that sort of thing and not spiking (tho I know that spiking does happen too). Blaming your own fallibilities on others.
