Elbow headlined in 2009 and they're arguably bigger now than they were then. So no.

Paloma Faith seems like an odd Sunday night Big Top closer, but Chase and Status will be on at the same(ish) time at the Port, so she's a good alternative for the non-dance heads.

by big top closer, do you guys reckon that means the like 1am-2am [orbital] slot, or clashing with the headliner (spiritualized)?

clashing with the headliner would make more sense as she doesn't seem like the type of act to play in the early hours of the morning - would've assumed that'd' be an electronic act. but 'closer' definitely makes it seem like she'll be the last act on

hmm i don't reckon they are.. new album out soon though. They're subbing/further down at titp and V but i'm not sure that bears any indication as to if/where they'd play here?

no it doesn't really as T and V aren't really Elbow crowds, whereas Glastonbury / Bestival are. if they played Bestival i'm almost positive they'd have to headline

don't think they'll get a particularly good reception at T/V, but when you put it like that i'd have to agree! keeping faith nonetheless :superblue:

What kind of act would really grab you?

i dont think these kinds of acts are available this year.... the festival circuit seems quite thin on big acts this year.

i know it was a one off but the cure year was the best bestival, it had that sense of occasion.

i dont want to be too negative but im just not feeling this line up at all. outkast is good but beyond that its pretty thin and mostly derivative.

you used to see a bestival line up and think "only at bestival"

is that the case now?

In terms of the headline acts, I suppose not. But when you're there, it's still full of "only at Bestival" moments. The Port is very much an "only at Bestival" area. And with Reading & Leeds and some other major festivals only just recently cottoning onto the idea that some people might like a bit of dance music with their rock, here comes Bestival announcing a whole stage dedicated to dancehall, reggae and jungle. Much like Glastonbury, if you're spending your whole weekend looking at the main stage(s), you're doing it wrong.

That said, Bestival does still get a lot right on the main stage, particularly in the sub-headliner slots.

i pretty much agree with you. stuff like The Cure (followed by Primal Scream), Sigur Ros into Stevie Wonder etc seemed really special when it was announced. got me really excited. this year doesn't quite have that (yet - of course there's still plenty to be announced, but i doubt there'll be anything quite that special)

Outkast is brilliant of course, but i can't help but think if they weren't on the lineup it would, right now, look pretty average and like a list of last years Glastonbury undercard

There's a few acts announced for Festival No 6 that I'd like to see announced for Bestival: Neneh Cherry, Jimi Goodwin, Martha Reeves & the Vandellas, Temples, East India Youth.

I agree actually, there's enough on the lineup already to satisfy me, but not much that genuinely excites me.

Correct me if I'm wrong but there's still the Saturday main stage subheadliner to announce? I'm hoping for a surprise/something a little out of the box for that slot... Unless Basement Jaxx are doing it?

i'm not sure if it's been announced yet or not - i don't think any of the press releases have stated which they have for Disclosure and Major Lazer, so hopefully there's still something to come

Don't think anyone was dissing Crystal Fighters (although I do struggle somewhat with the spectacle of incredibly posh boys from Hoxton putting on fake-Basque accents), necessarily. More that they're not in the same bracket as Orbital, FBS, and LCD Soundsystem who have all played late on Sunday in the Big Top in recent years.

Just confirmed on Twitter that Basement Jaxx are doing the Saturday.

Guessing they're subbing then... Good luck to Foals following the high energy performance Bassment Jaxx usually put on, they're going to have their work cut out for them.

On reflection Lauryn Hill would be better on the Big Top, so I've got my fingers crossed.
