Crap bands and their crap songs

I never actually understand this 'The Strokes are boring' business. Pretty much all their music videos are them slouched over their instruments not showing charisma. You could probably get that from just listening to their music too. Why do people turn up expecting the Kaiser Chiefs? Do they need to work on their light show or something?

It's because people praise them as the saviours of rock or something like that - it tends to give off an idea they're an exciting band when they're anything but.

First part is true, yeah. Don't get the last part; you don't need a light show or to run around the stage to not look like you'd rather be dead than be there.

They did. Keane and Papa Roach and Blink-182 would be the headliners this year without them.

What's the lowest acceptable level of activity for a performance then?

And no; First Impressions isn't the worst. Angles is.

Couldn't care less how much activity there is. Body language shows a lot about what a person's feeling, though, and their body language shows they can't be arsed to be there, and are probably only there for the money.

Hmm I have those two down as the worst two, but FIOE is longer and therefore has more filler. Second half of the album's all a bit shit really.

I only ever listen to Is This It tbh.

Well, Blink are headliners this year so.... :P

And I just don't believe this tbh. There were plenty of rock bands forming around the same time as them that got big around the same time. The one that comes to the top of my head immediately is The White Stripes!

The White Stripes got big a few years later tbh, but this whole 'saviours of rock n roll' thing always makes me smile, as they were still boring back then, and pretty overhyped.

Their rise to popularity opened the door for The White Stripes, BRMC, and all the British and American garage rock/indie rock bands mostly named with the prefix "The" that you see in the crappy forgotten noughties band thread. Nobody's saying The Strokes inspired them (although with Arctics that's true) but you could easily argue another band could have came along and been the band to save rock music. But they didn't - The Strokes did. Edited by dentalplan

But did they save rock music, or just open the door for a lot of indie rock landfill? I personally find them vastly overrated tbh.

Well no not really; it's just harmless hyperbole. Bands have been labelled similarly since: The Vaccines in 2011 and now Royal Blood amongst probably others.

That just got me reading into this article. I wonder what Moco do now. Can't even find them on YouTube.

I'm not sure I can even remember Moco, what did they do?

And most of the bands mentioned there have either split up or started to fade away (still hope for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs every year at Leeds though :/ )

Absolutely, do people expect something different than their records? If they expect to be blown away by the energy or crowd interaction they're they're fucking stupid. The Strokes have been doing this long enough for people to know what the deal is.

It's because people praise them as the saviours of rock or something like that - it tends to give off an idea they're an exciting band when they're anything but.

But why would that suddenly turn them from a bunch of slackers into an exciting live unit? Do people really expect so see something like a Foos live show when they go to see the Strokes? It's the Strokes fer chrissakes.

I love the Strokes and really enjoyed their headline set. Good songs played well.
