Crap bands and their crap songs

Puns aside, you need to remedy that Nick Cave failure. Phenomenal artist. I'd start in the 90s though, Let Love In, The Good Son and Murder Ballads are all great albums that are a bit more accessible than some of his others.

I could list out far too many, but rather than just angrily recommending everything, are there any particular genres or styles you want to explore?

There are loads of artists I've never listened to that I've seen you talk about.

Bjork, Nick Cave, B&S. Can only describe them as artists suitable for Latitude :P

Artists like this have always interested me, I've just never got round to listening to them.

I think my biggest sin though is that I've never listened to Neil Young.

Do I have to leave here forever now?

No, you're just not allowed to w*nk again until it's over all of them.

Bjork's best is probably Vespertine, her most accessible is Debut. I'd recommend starting with Post though, and just working your way through the following albums. Post, Homogenic, Vespertine, Medulla is an incredible run.

All of B&S is good, although Tigermilk and The Boy With the Arab Strap are their standout albums.

With Neil Young I just recommend picking one of his classic songs that you like and buying the album with it on. All his albums are varying degrees of good, but they have subtly different styles and the lead singles tend to be a fairly accurate reflection of the album style as a whole. Rust Never Sleeps is a decent one to start with.

Edit: And have you listened to Odelay by Beck? If not that should also be a priority.

Those two over If You're Feeling Sinister?

Would throw Dummy, Mezzanine and Mogwai Young Team in there which spring to mind when thinking of Latitude.

Kaos it might just be wise to draw up a list of essentials for everyone to listen to before posting in the R+L sections. :P

Yup. It's a decent album but I don't think it's the enduring classic that I can listen to on repeat for hours at a time like the other two.

All great shouts, although my personal favourite Mogwai album is Happy Songs for Happy People.

The problem with doing such a list, is that IMO an "essentials" list is about 200 albums long. Not to mention it would just be a massive egotrip, something I don't really need. I prefer to just throw the odd recommendation out there generally and offer personalised suggestions based off what people already like.

Great albums by bands that have or should have headlined Latitude's main or second stage:

The Soft Bulletin - Flaming Lips

Dummy - Portishead

Mezzazine - Massive Attack

Mogwai Young Team - Mogwai

Murder Ballads - Nick Cave

Post - Bjork

The Boy With the Arab Strap - Belle and Sebastian

Odelay - Beck

Funeral - Arcade Fire

Broken - Soulsavers

() - Sigur Ros

Ladies and Gentlemen We are Floating in Space - Spiritualized

Boxer - The National

Beautiful Freak - Eels

Devotion - Beach House

There's 15. I've got 185 more.

Yeah I'm going in to town tomorrow to buy a bunch of albums so I'll do that with Neil Young first. I have listened to Odelay, yeah. Its the only Beck album I've listened to all the way through actually.

Thanks very much by the way :)

While you're there, buy a Talking Heads album or 7 (True Stories isn't really worth bothering with, at least compared to other work by the members)

I was going to make a new thread for this but felt I'd get shot down.

I've got a week off next week and was going to spend it going to watch films since its free for me but instead I've decided to bask in my own filth and listen to music that I haven't got round to listening to yet. I notice you lot talking about bands that I've never listened to before such as Refused or Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (I know this may offend you)

If any of you fancy reccomending some artists that I need to listen to in my life time then please do. If not then ignore me. :)

Listen to The Shape Of Punk To Come it is great

I've only listened to one of these but in my defensive the one I have listened to is one of my favourite albums ever and I have it on vinyl (if counts for anything).

Also after that disappointment Koas my be pleased to know that I have started to listen to The Mountain Goats last week 8)
