The National

Damn you When Jokers Attack - I wasn't going to look and then just did! That's an awesome setlist though, seems pleasingly long. No Abel but I can live with that.

Pleased to see England on there too after rediscovering it at Scruffy's behest over the weekend. (Of course I know and love the outro - I just hadn't quite picked up on the lyric before. Odd for me as I'm a lyrics geek usually. Probably because High Violet is my least listened to at the moment.)

Anyway, I am ridiculously excited. To the extent that I feel bad for Arcade Fire tonight as I can't quite get as excited for them as for The National.

I've noticed over the last couple o years that American bands tend to do this. BRMC, Eels and

Black Keys have played all bar two or three tracks from their new albums when I've seen them.

Don't give up on your favourites yet. They tend to mix up some of the older tunes. Abel notwithstanding, that is a great set list though: Conversation 16, Vanderlyle, Bloodbuzz, Squalor Victoria, Secret Meeting. All amazing.

Yes, it's a beautiful thing. I'm not sure whether I should have looked or not but it was not a disappointment.

Really hope I get Abel though.

Those four albums are so bloody good. I'm doing a The National shuffle on my ipod right now from those four and every song is good. Favourites right now include All The Wine and Fireproof. And Start A War. I haven't studied a single setlist - I would like to be surprised for once in my gig-going life.

That voice - I could just melt into it.

I'm making a National 'best of' playlist ahead of the gig on Wednesday night to try to make the time pass (just a wee bit excited, here!). Finding it hard to narrow down though. It's about 30 songs at the moment, spanning all the way through from the first album to Trouble Will Find Me.

I had a look at the Dublin setlist last night and the excitement has gone through the roof now! 26 songs!

If they added Geese of Beverley Road I'd be an extremely satisfied customer.

It's very exciting isn't it? Have you seen them before?

I can't believe there were 26 songs! And I thought the Nick Cave gigs were long at around 21 or 22.

That's a bit rude of them isn't it? Two dates in London and two in Manchester. You'd think they could manage a trip up to you guys.

Yeah, the last time I seen them was in Edinburgh two years ago.

I was intially planning on making a trip to Manchester when the dates were first announced but couldn't afford it in the end.

Hee's hoping they play Glasto next year, fairly confident they will.

It's a long old way from Edinburgh to Manchester.

Did you not see dentalplan's earlier post? Seems to rule them out of Glasto :(

Setlist from Manchester last night:

Don't Swallow the Cap

I Should Live in Salt

Mistaken for Strangers

Sorrow

Bloodbuzz Ohio

Demons

Sea of Love

Slipped

Afraid of Everyone

Conversation 16

Squalor Victoria

I Need My Girl

This Is the Last Time

Available

Cardinal Song

(as 'Available' outro)

Slow Show

Apartment Story

Pink Rabbits

England

Graceless

Fake Empire

Encore:

Humiliation

Mr. November

Terrible Love

Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks

Looks very similar to Dublin but with Mistaken for Strangers instead of Secret Meeting. Still no Abel!

And the Dublin one I've just noticed says 'Matt in crowd' for two songs and Vanderlyle 'acoustic' in the encore but not on the Manchester one.

Anyone there last night?

Only twice, which is weird being as I've become a bit of an obsessive over the past decade. Bristol Academy on the High Violet tour and Glastonbury 2010. Both just stunning. How about you?

Was Slipped not in the Dublin setlist as well? Will have to check!

I've never seen them so am beside myself with excitement. I don't know why I missed them in 2010 (Dead Weather maybe?) and I saw the first two or three songs in 2008 but then had to leave as was in a bit of a bad way! Hugely regret that now but I wasn't such a big fan then. They've been a band of missed opportunities for me so I cannot bloody wait.

I think they did Hard To Find instead in Dublin.

No competition for me there. Slipped is one of my favourites from Trouble Will Find Me.

Yeah, I don't really know why I haven't seen them more. Been really into them since Boxer came out, our paths have just never really crossed I suppose.

Never been to Ally Pally, either. It's annoying that every time I start a conversation about the gig, I just get "yeah, it's a shit venue". But hey, I'm going to see The National :)

I've been a fan since Boxer but it's only in the last couple of years that my love for them has skyrocketed. Never had an opportunity for a gig in that time.

Ignore the Ally Pally haters! I quite like the venue and you won't even notice where you are when they're on I'm sure :)

Haven't been this excited about a gig in a long time! Well apart from Nick Cave but that's a special circumstance.
