The National

But do you really think there's that big of a crossover between Foos and National fans at a Glastonbury show? :P There may be a fair share of National fans there, but there'll be an even more rabid crowd of hardcore Foos fans looking to get up front.

Sorry I was still working off the idea they would be subbing Radiohead

Still outside chance of park headliner.

Yeah I know it won't happen but until it's impossible I'll lie to myself.

Although Abel on the pyramid sound system will sound awesome.

Park? Bit early on a Wednesday to have been on the sauce.

I did read that Lazer & The Majors have self confirmed for the Other headliner ye? Because that's the one giving us a full house and killing the dream dead.

The only thing salvaging it is the prospect of 3rd down beneath The XX on Friday. Obviously wouldn't be anywhere near as good as Sunday Other headliner would have been.

Aye I feel the same - sub slots seem to be very hard to nail these days. Like was mentioned earlier, even stuff like Foals playing before Muse, which they should've nailed, manage to flounder due in part to an uninterested crowd. People just seem to be happy to waste a few hours at an act they don't like/know just to get a good spot for the headliner. Seems baffling to me considering how much other stuff they'd have on at that time on the other stages.

tbf, Foals didn't exactly help themselves by playing a few fairly meh tracks from their latest album. if they had played some of the singles form previous albums I think it would have gone down brilliantly, rather than just a 7/10 performance.

less Snake Oil, Providence, A Knife in the Ocean, Late Night.....more Miami, This Orient, Blue Blood, Total Life Forever

Spot on.

The National potentially playing third down just seems... hell, they were fifth on the poster! Does the poster count for nothing these days?! We might as well put Kaiser Chiefs back on as Foo Fighters sub and Biffy as the Other Stage opener on Friday!

...

...

...

Wait a minute....

No...

It couldn't be...?

Maybe it's the gin talking...

Headlining Thursday, I heard. They fucking deserve it.

I'm hoping for The National/The XX/Radiohead Friday night!

Thinking The XX could end up subbing Ed Sheeran though with Katy Perry between them and Barry Gibb. Saw they did it with Ellie Goulding last year after the legend slot. Katy Perry is bigger but maybe that's a format they'll continue this year with an upbeat pop act following the legend slot.

I just really want to see both The National and The XX!

Did people really think Foals didn't go down well? I was in a pit up front so probs with all the hardcore Foals fans but from there it seemed like they smashed it, everyone around me seemed to know every word. Tame were phenomenal in that slot, too. Previous Pyramid subs I've seen less so, but those were also considerably less good acts (Pharell, Libertines).

EDIT: Ok I've just seen someone suggesting Foals shouldnt have done Providence which was the high point of their set and always gets a great crowd response. Odd.

I love foals, saw em from way back as no-one wanted to go in and it was flat. I was sad.

I think The National and The XX now may well take Friday and Sunday sub with Biffy in the middle to male it look less stale. I'm heading towards Katy Perry being 3rd down on Friday atm with Chic 3rd then Gibb Sunday. If Lorde is a Other sub then Katy on Saturday below Biffy and Royal Blood 3rd down Friday Pyramid but that's all I can see atm.

I can see Perry taking 3rs simply as that slot will free her up for all the headliners and subs as to get some exposure after she's dipped in the charts a bit but Other sub and comparing to Ellie who is a regular festival headliner......I don't think so. You only have to look at Ellie's attended crowd subbing on Other a few years ago, it wasn't dead by a long shit but there was a lot of room about, what her crowd was like on the Pyramid this year I'm unsure but if we are taking that from last year then Katy has dipped a bit so I see it. I think at 1st glance Katy looks massive but when you consider her point  of popularity in music at the heart given time I don't think it's a world beating booking but an exclusive none the less.

What did people expect tbh?, that's a huge field for them to sub especially if stood at the back and and playing a fair few from a recent album that didn't get close to reaching the hype is telling enough. The fact of how easy a Reading sub or co-headliner is appearing at Glastonbury in a lower slot whether on exclusive or not says a lot.

I actually think you've nailed it here. Not sure about the order of the pyramid subs (reckon I'd go Biffy, The XX  and The National or maybe switch those first two) but otherwise I agree.

I can't not see The National in the Cave sub slot if they're not headlining Other.

It was a toss up between The XX and The National and while I think The XX are more commercial I have have to remember stuff like Nick Cave subbing Sunday when he's not radio friendly tbh and The National, it's not they aren't bigger than I give credit for bigger and wider audience than I see as not for me.

Only thing with Biffy as RH sub is that then sets up a RB clash which I can't see, and if they won't do a FF and Biffy under they probably won't do a Biffy with RB under.

The National 100% ain't gonna be subbing Ed on the Sunday. I know similar stuff has happened before but that would just be a poor poor booking for them to make. "Thanks for finally agreeing to play the festival after so long. Oh, where are you playing? To a crowd of Ed Sheeran fans - fuck you".

Mate they did it to Cave. I'm calling it now and claiming it as my own so you all be quoting me back like "Shit, ZMG was right" when the stage splits come out.

Ed's got too many die hards, it would ruin such a good gig, I could imagine it would piss off Matt too.

With Katie Perry on beforehand.

If The National are subbing, it would be hugely unfair on them for it to be anyone other than Radiohead. They would die a slow death under FF or Ed. I don't see why the Eavii would book them and put them in a slot that will clearly not work for them. I know these things have happened in the past, but recently at least they've made a somewhat concerted effort to group subs with headliners.

The Pyramid sub slot is hard to nail at the best of times, so I say if the option is playing 3rd down on that stage or subbing FF/Ed, they'd be better off 3rd down. Either The National>The xx>Radiohead or just The National>Radiohead.

See, although Radiohead would 100% make the most sense, I could see them below Foos for sure, even if Biffy are sitting there as the most glaringly obvious candidate for that. Certainly hoping for National > Radiohead, Biffy > Foos and XX > Sheeran but I can see the order on the poster happening too (it just wouldn't be as good for any of the subs).

I've given up the guess game I think, I'm sticking with my prediction of The National 3rd down pyramid.

Surprised to hear some flat reviews for the Foals performance, i thought they were excellent but as a big Foals fan maybe I could've been blinkered. I was dead centre ahead of the soundtowers/screens, and came away thinking it was one of my favourite sets of the weekend. It was always going to feature lots of new material and not a load of stuff from total life forever which they haven't played for a while.

I honestly think they're subbing foos. Dunno if that's better or worse. Please quote this post when it's proven to be right when the line up lands.

Aye I think the same, which is much better than below Ed, but still not ideal by any means and I feel that they'll still flounder (or at least the crowd will show little interest).

And Biffy support Ed?  Dunno if that makes any sense.

Well yeah that would be an odd one but I'm guessing Biffy have a more present rabid fanbase at UK festivals than The National/Beck/the other doomed subs ever did so reckon they'd come out of it alright.

Or, y'know, it'll be the sensible end result of The National below Radiohead, Biffy below Foos and The xx below Ed.
