Either way, it's very heavily about the music. The lineup is the focus of the festival, and most of the rest of it is groups of 16/17/18 year olds having post-exam-results blowouts. Leeds has a bunch of after-hours entertainment, Reading has virtually none.

Leeds, which does thankfully seem better (Reading sounds a bit bleak, you'd have to talk to people, or something). It's definitely not high on my list of preferred festivals that I'd choose to go to on my own, but I was briefly considering going last year with friends. Think there was one day that looked really good with loads of clashes, and then slim pickings on the other days.

If you don't like any of the headliners or much of the higher slots, and your preferences lean towards acts that might be a long shot like TWOD or Future Islands or something then you're probably not gonna feel great about chucking £200+ on it.

It's still very lineup focused. If there's not a few big acts you're really wanting to see and then a fair few others scattered through the lineup you'll probably spend more time feeling bored than satisfied. Just because Leeds has some stuff doesn't make it like all the "more than just a gig in a field" ones.

I couldn't see DFA, The Kills, St Vincent or Future Islands being booked middle of the main stage bill. Not really a right fit. Doubt St. Vincent will be around then and I think The Dead Weather will be touring rather than The Kills but either would be welcome.

Forgot about Gerard Way being a likelihood but I definitely couldn't see him being that high up. ATL are a bit low as well.

I get what you mean on your points. Could see St Vincent coming back around... she did her UK tour in August after doing European fests earlier in the summer this year but I agree on the second year of the album tour it seems less likely. The others yeah seem a bit odd for main but just wanted to do something a bit different... after all we've had bands like Modest Mouse on main. Dead Weather makes sense just feels a bit weird not to have had The Kills at Reading for a while. Anyway made some changes based on what you said:

For what it's worth regarding St.Vincent - at EOTR she headlined the main stage on the friday night last year and from all the other volunteers who saw her (I was watching The Gene Clark No Other band at the same time), she was apparently really shite in the open air - her current show layout and everything just sounded really lame. A few of the volunteers were really big fans too but all admitted she was disappointed.

So if she did play R&L, perhaps headline NME?

Fair enough, as I said - I'm going by other people's judgements of her show. I love her on record but am yet to see her live and f it happened to be she was playing outdoors, I'm sure it'd be enjoyable nonetheless

However, as Will and Matt have said, I do think she's big enough to headline NME and get a big crowd - at the very least the size that Alt-J got back in 2013.
