Asdaprice
even if there were fully equal rights in Western cultures (there aren't), what about in places like Saudi Arabia where women are just objects, should we just ignore that because it isn't happening here? This is a silly argument for a festival forum anyway

Tobieski
I'm fairly sure a recent law was passed which voided the idea that women should get cheaper car insurance than men.
Com Truise
I truly believe that women have equal rights in the west, absolutely. I'd be interested in hearing where the are discriminated here? They certainly get equal job opportunities. They are in more control in relationships. They even get cheaper car insurance. Day to day stuff there which actually effects us all. Yes, worldwide might be different. But even so, me commenting on Cheryl Coles bum is hardly sexist. Girls can perve as much as men, and do, and if you're in the public eye it's bound to happen. Hell, you get adult women perving on teenage pop band kids. That certainly would be frowned upon if a male did that to a 17 year old girl.

kaosmark2
I remember a mate of mine was reading a book on feminism and when asked why he said "my girlfriend said I should read it and if I do I'll get more blowjobs"
adam1234
you can argue that second point all you like, but it's definitely not the same vice versa, especially when about 90% of rape victims are female
kaosmark2
This is a difficult point to prove as so many offences of rape go unreported. The actual figure is completely unknown it could be greatly higher or greatly Lower.
adam1234
There's statistics around suggesting that guys are less likely to report being sexually harassed/raped because of the whole macho culture, perception of them as sissy/effeminate/gay/whatever, an argument that makes sense. I'd still be shocked if there's not a significant difference though.
Asdaprice
Also rape is illegal hands down, there's no rights to do it whether you're a man or a woman. There's criminals and sickos out there, but it's nothing to do with equal rights and feminism that some girls in the west get raped. It's a crime that will be punished if caught just like it would if there was proof a man was raped. There is nothing in it to suggest men are disregarding women because of their sex as as a whole. Asdaprice
one recent example that springs to mind - actors. Female actors in Criminal Minds such as AJ Cook complained about not getting as much money as their male coworkers, threatened to leave etc. they still signed on again for more seasons but don't get equal pay you can argue that second point all you like, but it's definitely not the same vice versa, especially when about 90% of rape victims are female

jump
Not to mention only men can commit rape anyway, so its more likely to be women who are victims of rape from the off.
thesecretingredientiscrime
I wouldn't say that, a man can get a erection regardless of him being in the mood or not and keep in mind rape is rarely about sex but power over the other person so things like fisting a man's arsehole are also done to. Com Truise
I love it when people use individual case studies to prove that "women don't have equal rights in society". That sucks for them, truly, but it could have been other factors other then they were women as to why they were payed less anyway.
Asdaprice
It was an example? If I'd said that women get lower wages than men you'd have asked me to provide one. It's a fact that men get paid more for doing the same job.
Yellow_Fellow
I actually wouldn't have asked for an example, because a one off example is not enough to make a claim that women are discriminated in society still as a whole.
