geolocation features

I've been developing the festival data recently so that it's now (in theory) possible for mobile phone & tablet users to be presented with data that is geographically near to them.

To see a *VERY* rough working version, you can click here:-

http://www.efestivals.co.uk/test/index.php

(that's currently set-up to return any festival within approx 15 miles of your location).

I'm going to develop this a lot more before it's put live onto the website, and I'd be very interested to hear suggestions of any features or variations you'd like included.

how about an option to launch a map view - forinstance it says one festival is 2 miles from me, but I know that's directly across the mouth of a nearby river and to actually get there is a lot further. Then have an a close the map button too - so you can return to the main page

OK, I'll bear it in mind as I work thru it.

also would we be able to go through the results and remove from the list those we weren't interested in - and perthaps have a restore all results option.

I've just thought could some date feature be implemented - so you could see all festivals near you in June and July say.

after lots of umm-ing and ahh-ing and trying to decide which is the best way to present the geographical data with all the many variables that can apply to someone who might be anywhere in the country, I've decided that the best bet is to make all results available.

For example, someone in the North East (which doesn't have so many festivals) might find their nearest festival is 30 miles away, while in Bristol I find I've got loads within just a few miles of me, so giving just (say) 10 results to each of those people would have different amounts of usefulness to them.

If I give all results, then the web-site user can interact with all of those results in whatever way they wish to, which is better than the usefulness being limited for them by the decisions I've made at this point in the development.

I've updated the demo so that it's now returning the nearest ten festivals to that person, with those results sorted by distance (nearest first).

(NOTE: only people using tablets or mobiles will get the geo features on that page at the moment)

The finished version will look more like other pages, and be integrated into the website.
