Lana Del Rey ( confirmed ) :)

Ah shit, shit, shit. Not going to G this year, and she was one of the (very) few acts on the line-up I wanted to see. But am planning on doing Pohoda the weekend of the Hyde Park gig.

Why does the universe hate me?

Was hoping to pick up (hopefully discounted) tickets for BST, but apparently it’s sold out, and without a supporting bill being announced. Wonder if this elevates her to the pot of potential future Pyramid headliners? I guess we’ll know depending on how these shows are received

Nah. Like, she’s probably just about big enough to do it as a smaller headliner, but I think there’s a reason they’ve got her on Other this year rather than giving her the big gig (especially after Taylor dropped out) and it’s because her music and live shows just don’t have that ‘wow’ factor that people have come to expect. Can’t think of another Pyrmaid headliner who’s material has been as low-key as hers is; even Sheeran, who plays live with just a guitar and effects pedal, at least has ‘bangers’ or sing along choruses that get the crowd going, which Lana doesn’t really do. Think Other headliner/Pyramid sub is her ceiling unless she decides to move away from the sound she’s been perfecting for the past decade or so.

She’s done what many others (including Glasto headliners; Kendrick’s BST date in 2020 sold like very cold, stale cakes) have failed to do - sell out BST. I think she could argue that it puts her in that league now. Whether or not her catalogue is suited for it is another matter

It's a very minor point and not intended to diminish her clearly excellent sales - but BST shows do come in 2 flavours - 65k capacity and 50k capacity, and given it was arranged+announced last it's very likely that Lana is one of the lower ones. So it may not be a like for like comparison. Still impressive though.

Kendrick might not be in the same league anymore live sales wise, but there isn’t any way Lana would bring anything close to the same level of spectacle that he brought to his headline performance, and I think it’s a very important factor. People thought Adele’s live show was gonna be a snoozer of a headliner and Lana is several notches down from her in the mellow department.

Tbh, I think it’s great that Glastonbury essentially has a second ‘main’ stage that they can use to cater acts who don’t quite meet the Pyramid headliner criteria, and I hope she nails that slot.

So random - apparently it is because it's gotten popular on TikTok? I'm not complaining though! Intrigued to see what the official release sounds like.

Also this has reminded me that we are about ten days away from learning what Lana's current festival set shapes up like 😬

I'd love this, I reckon white mustang will also be in the setlist.

I'm torn, I love her Ocean Blvd album - and NFR - but still unsure what she'll be like live. Any advice?

In my biased opinion, I think it's going to be really special (she says she's going to have "a big band" accompanying her).

I think we'll mostly be getting songs from DYKTTATUOB and NFR, too. Chemtrails and Blue Banisters don't have as many big “festival” songs.

I would love her to include Love from LFL, it's my absolute fave

I'd love that too. I'd welcome a whole lot of LFL- 13 Beaches would be a treat, too.

Really no clue how it's going to go - I seem to recall she used to have a reputation for leaning heavily on her earlier stuff, but she's released so much since last touring that could now be completely different. I could live without The Grants, or LMLYLAW, but to be honest as long as Lana is on that stage and singing some tunes I'm going to be happy.

I'm exactly the same - big fan, just unsure if I'll be in the mood for her type of show on Saturday night and I think the rest of my group will be elsewhere. If I don't make it to Lana then I'll be at Loyle Carner for sure.

Agreed - would love if she did 'Love' or '13 Beaches'. I based my prediction setlist off what's new/tracks with high streaming numbers/what's likely/gut feeling.

I would ascend to heaven if she does 'The Grants' with a full choir.

Either ethereal or a dud. I wouldn't risk it normally but this year LDR benefits from no major clashes when she's playing, so I'm excited to see her for the first time.

For anyone on the fence, you can catch her full MITA set here:

I don't want to spoil the whole thing but I just skipped through a few moments to satisfy my curiosity. It is clear she is still SO nervous performing live, and I found the backing track use at some points to be off-putting, but it's also clear how she very much grows in confidence as the set goes on. Genuinely I am lying here in tears in bed right now cause of how close to (I think, happy?) tears she is when she sees how the crowd respond to her starting DYKTTATUOB.

I can only hope her crowd at Glasto is as dedicated as this lot. I know I'll be right there singing every fucking word.
