Spindles
Nice one on the counting. I figured that Caster's sons being converted was the reason for that reveal before. There have also been a few comments about some beyond the wall having older and stranger gods than those of the south. I wouldn't be surprised if there are living who worship them as well. Winslow Leach
The ringing note and how both parties reacted was fantastic film making, imo. The whole thing was one of the best executed, best shot battle sequences I've seen on any big or small screen. The sense of sheer, palpable panic and mayhem was incredible. bunique
There was one continuous shot of Snow that was particularly impressive - I think it was as he was heading to search for the dragon glass? Just followed him hacking wights to death. Very cool. One of my favourite shots in any TV show is the continuous circular shot of the battle at the end of last season from the middle of the courtyard at (?) Castle Black (can never remember names of places). It was stunning TV and last night was definitely up there with it
rhysieg
I have to agree that that was one of the greatest battle scenes ever shown. I don't think I've ever seen a battle that managed to put across the horror of what is actually happening as well as they managed: the wildling getting killed by the dead children, the ominous presence of the leaders on the clifftop, the silent stare of Jon and the survivors witnessing the Leader ressurecting the dead. I could literally feel the horror. Great acting and great special effects. Probably the best scene they've managed yet, so impressive, that has stapled GoT as the greatest show ever for me. On the official facebook page they have a quick video of the creators inside look at the episode, it's worth a watch. They speak about the battle not being in the books, they say it is mentioned that something terrible had happened at Hardhome but it wasn't given any detail so they used that to give the readers and viewers something fresh and to show the true power of the walkers. EDIT: managed to find the video on youtube: Edited June 2, 2015 by rhysieg
swede
I love a slow build in TV shows as if it's a great show like GOT the payoff is usually amazing. That was def worth the wait, I've just watched 20 minutes of truly stunning television there, what a battle ! Love that we're past the books as well, makes the show so interesting
Wooderson
Did I miss a scene? Was she in this episode? Thronecast. Admittedly I find my mind wandering when I see her...
ThomThomDrum
Thronecast. Admittedly I find my mind wandering when I see her... Ah right. Yeah there is something about her. It was truly confirmed we are watching fantasy when Snow refused her!

Rufus Gwertigan
Thronecast. Admittedly I find my mind wandering when I see her... She is one of those women I could just sit and look at. Nothing would be weird about it all. Just me sat looking at her.

I thought the sense of geography was appalling, it was impossible to get a sense of where anything was happening, largely because we've never been given a totally clear idea of the layout of the place. I just didn't feel like they got any sense of the scale of the battle across, or what was at stake. The battle from this week's episode did all that. It topped both the battle at the wall and Blackwater, as far as I'm concerned.

There's a courtyard, some barracks, and that's just about it.
FloorFiller
well that was an incredible episode. although i knew there was no way it could happen i honestly thought Jon was fucked towards the end there. that final scene of the boat floating away with the walkers on the shore was just brilliant - really showed the impending doom and horror of the whole situation. fingers crossed the final two episodes continue in this route

windy_miller
I know in a previous post I said that GoT was never mainly about the action sequences, but that was fucking epic.
LondonTom
"Gather the others and let's talk!" (Tres cool) Think that ranks up with my favourite lines after a killing in GoT! (Think it was Elders again, rather than others ). Just utterly perfect, right before shit goes down to That final battle was just rediculously epic, utterly brilliant! As others said, there not many action scenes in movies/TV where you actually feel the "heros" are danger and its a complete disaster. Captured it perfectly! I did think something was going to happen to Jon when it all kicked it off though, as I only watched it last night and saw all the OMGs! (I also thought Mance andYgritte were back at one point, as there was two widlings on the peir as they arrived that looked quite like them ) A shame about how quick the new Wildling's got killed off! Gutted for the woman, after what about 10 minutes of screen time?! The ending was just perfect! The only problem with the battle I had was that, it didn't show how Edd, the other brothers with the Giant got out?? Maybe I just didn't notice, but I was gutted I thought he had died when Jon goes back for the Dragonglass but then he pops up randomly when they get the boat! Still thats nitpicking! I am glad Tyrion is back to his best and drinking wine again! Everything else, feels like it was just there as a filler...but forgiven for this episode: p Edited June 4, 2015 by LondonTom
Spindles
I love the action, but more than that I want to see Tyrion being clever and cruelly amusing more. This season needs more Tyrion. I swear that the smart, strong, funny wildling woman leader was only there to show us how easily they can give us something brilliant and then steal it away on a whim. She could have been brilliant, only having less than a 20 minute lifespan was just plain cruel...I liked the Thenn/Fenn/However it's spelt as well, that he'd realised his mistake and that Jon was right once the battle began and fought alongside him was excellent. luckysalt
I only watched the last two weeks episodes just. I had just gotten a little meh with it all. Ep 7 was decent enough, went to the shops made some sandwiches sat down to watch ep 8, immediately I sensed an increased pace in this episode, which I liked, but then WOW the second half of the episode, not just the battle but everything from when Snow's scenes start. Just brilliant. I do wonder how they will see out the season now though.
bunique
I'm guessing Stannis vs Boltons will form a large part of it. Not sure what else there is to wrap up. Sansa out of Ramsay's clutches? I'd like a little more flesh on Arya's story arc before the series ends. Guessing Faith Militant will run on and can't see Dany making a move on Kings Landing before the series ends.

I have a feeling Arya's story will be good this week. Remember Mace and Ser Meryn are on their way to Braavos and the latter is on her kill list. Plus something must happen with that gambler. Must be a good couple of season story in her training to be an assassin too. Not sure how much other things will move on - I know how the book ends, but it's whether the series stops short or overtakes. I know that's vague, but am spoiler-aware. The Arya bit above is a hunch and not based on the book knowledge.

Winslow Leach
Just when you think season 5 is a total write off they pull out two brilliant episodes. Last night's was a great episode in so many ways, but it was also probably the single hardest episode to watch of the entire show I'm not getting those screams out of my head for a long, long time.
