Don't think it's all warm and summer evenings. After boarderline pneumonia at my first Glasto, and wearing my sleeping bag as a coat every night, it is a lesson learnt.

And disregard everything you've ever been told about speaking to strangers. They're the best ones there.

Double post, but THIS. I did this last year. We left the fest 1am Monday, and it was the most miserable experiance of my life. After three hours of running between rows of cars, steaming drunk, hammering the unlock button on my keys, I finally found the car. Only to have forgotton where I'd left my bags before I'd started running... (Should add I wasn't the one driving!)

I agree with everyone saying don't plan too much. Also don't be under the illusion that you need to hang around a stage to get a good position for a band you like. This caused me to stand in the pissing rain watching the automatic in my first Glastonbury. In almost all cases you can get a reasonably good place if you turn up ten minutes before the set.

Don't arrive, park up and take the first load out of the car and think looking back at what's left.. and utter the words "yeah I think we can do it one..."

You can't. You will end up cursing profusely before you've even reached the pedestrian crossing between car park fields but by then it's too late...

Every year so far we have done it in one trip and it has nearly broken me every time. This year we have vowed that it's absolutely worth taking an extra hour out of the first day to be less laden down with stuff first thing in the morning, stood in a glacial queue.

Too goddamn right. I started doing two trips and never looked back, you don't need the boozeall the booze right away or all your extra shit and soooo much gentler on the back. Even as someone who does hard outdoor work the difference was much appreciated

I took two return trips to the car last time out...

Had to get the reserve booze supply on Saturday morning!!

Was a good way to clear the head and, oddly, I enjoyed the 30mims of peace.

Walk from Park to Williams Green to Pryamid to Other twice in one day. It will give you big blisters!

On the subject of the journey in. I have a trolley but still do two trips, the 1st time I went to leeds festival we went on a coach so had to do 1 trip it was he'll so from there I vowed to never try that again. Although this year I may get away with 1. But I like the smug walk back through the gate seeing everyone come through and knowing the worst is over.

Don't bog yourself down too much with the bands you want to see.

Every year I make a mental list of what acts I want to see, and every year I see probably 25% of them tops. If you want to see someone bad enough you'll be there (or you'll catch them on tour/at another festival and if you don't, you probably weren't that fussed about seeing them anyway) and if you're not there, don't beat yourself up about, chances are you were almost certainly having a better time with what you were doing anyway.

Don't get ill!

It's difficult to enjoy Glastonbury if you severely under the weather. Make sure you wash hands and use hand gel at the appropriate times, look after yourself and others, and take a break/slow down when you need to.

And as it'll be hot, don't forget suncream, hat, and drink water.

And if you want to be near the front for a headliner you don't need to wait all day. Just go at the changeover of the most dissimilar bands beforehand. Rolling Stones were an exception. In 2009 I went into the front bit after kasabian for Springsteen and it was incredibly easy to get to about 10 rows from the front. If you're not bothered about barrier but just want to be close it's generally very easy

Though id go in before elbow if you want an arcade fire spot!

Don't forget sunscreen! & remember to put it on all body parts that will be exposed. Last year, my friend fell asleep in the sun (she was in her tent with the door open) burnt her hands (the door had blown back so they were exposed to the sun) which swelled up to monstrous proportions & I'm quite certain she had sunstroke too. Not pleasant.

don't cut your leg and get it infected on your way from the car park to the festival , kind of made me feel a bit rubbish for the festival and was at the medical tent unable to stand by Sat eve and off to hospital , if you do get a cut make sure you use antiseptic wipes ! and take a first aid kit maybe ( on a positive the festival medical services were superb ) !!
