2014 FIFA World Cup

The last time Brazil looked so grim, Terry Gilliam was directing (shamelessly stolen, but amused me)

Accrington Stanley put out a tweet last night that they'd decided not to make an offer for Maicon.

At 5-0, Kevin Peterson tweeted that he knew all about losing 5-0.

BBC Two had a programnme last night called "Seven Wonders of Brazil" (really! lol).

And Joe Root (at only half-time): "The only person wearing yellow tomorrow will be the leader of the Tour de France."

Last night just proves to anyone having a go at those slagging off Luiz that they were very much misguided in their assertions. If ever there was an over hyped, over paid, rubbish defender it is him. With Silva missing he needed to step up. He was verymuch lacking and PSG must be really pissed at themselves and their poor judgement

Silva reigns Luiz in a bit. And Brazil can cope when Luiz fucks off cos Silva is behind him and keeps the full backs a bit in check. Without him, Maicon, Luiz and Marcelho were playing as extra midfielders and forwards. Some of the German goals were laughable. The fact they had time to play 3 or 4 passes to each other in the box, rather than having to try their luck with a pot shot cos Luiz couldn't be arsed to run back from one of his forays, was unbelievable

Neymar had nothing to do with it really. It was Luiz leading the defence instead of Silva. One of the worst performances Ive seen from a player in the world cup.

while there were other issues, I reckon the absence of Neymar had already effected their belief before they stepped onto the pitch.

It's worth remembering that it's not like they were over-flowing with it before he got injured. They were a team feeling the pressure.

After 6 minutes I said to my missus that I could see Brazil getting thrashed* (nothing like what happened, tho), because the signs were there but Brazil were still in the game.

As soon as that first goal went in (particularly so early) they crumbled; they already knew they'd lost.

 That was rather enjoyable to watch, the defence played worse than West Ham's in the League Cup Semi Final!!

Still hats off to the Germans, the way they was still going for goal until the end and looked pissed off they let one in was great and I think its that sort of attitude that wins you the World Cup.

I thought from the group stages they looked the best of the favourites to go on to win it.

"that was the most embarrassing semi since I watched Brokeback Mountain with my dad"

I can see Argentina scraping a narrow win in tonight's game, then doing the same to Germany, before everyone calling them the GOAT side just because they have Messi in it.

For a team with the likes of Messi, Aguero and Di Maria, they've disappointed me, but you just know they're gonna scab their way to the trophy.

Hmmmm .... I expect tonight's game to go more like last night's game than I do an Argy win.

Not that i think Argentina will be as crap as Brazil, or the Dutch as good as Germany, but....

The Dutch are the only other team in the tournament that have found their form, while the Argy's seem to be feeling similar pressure to Brazil.

I'm rooting for Germany but wouldn't mind if Holland won it, I've enjoyed them more than Argentina who have bored me.

It's a shame Van Gaal is off to Man United after this really, he's still an awesome manager after all these years!

Argentina have more quality than Brazil though, and Holland aren't an all round world class team like Germany are.

agreed - I tried to make that clear in what I posted.

And going by how both teams have played throughout the tournament, getting narrow wins against lesser sides they've struggled against at times, I can see it being low scoring one.

Low scoring I can go with too.

I just can't see Argentina winning, cos the Dutch have nothing to lose and the Argies have everything to lose. I think that'll come thru in how they both perform, much as Brazil buckled under the pressure last night.

I just think there's more chance of a big Dutch win than there is any argy win.
