The statistic the commentator brought up about Cillessen not saving a penalty in his career says it all really.

Congrats to Argentina though, they've been my pick since last year. Really hoping they go on to win, as it will eliminate the doubts certain people have about Messi being the greatest of all time (I already think he is the greatest of all time).

I just can't see it. They've got some great players, but the whole is weaker than the sum of the parts. They aren't a team, they're a collection of individuals.

Don't think that can be the case - I thought it'd been said it was only because two others had declined that Vlaar ended up taking one. Fair play to him for having the balls to do so.

Think Holland showed again that they're not that great. Their performances have been much over egged in this World Cup IMO.

Clearly they played well against Spain, but then they were extremely fortuitous against the convicts, played poorly in a meaningless game against Chile, were 2 minutes from going out against Mexico in the last 16, and then scraped past Costa Rica on pens.

I've seen better Dutch sides go out in earlier rounds in previous tournaments.

As for the final, I hope it's a repeat of 1990 not 1986 in terms of the result, but really just hope it's a decent game.

I agree, Messi going up for the first penalty was a huge statement. I don't like this idea of leaving someone good for number 5, as Ronaldo found in the last euros, sometimes you never get there. However to his credit LVG got the most out of a team who came into this tournament with very little expectations.

Really dissapointing game wasn't it? Both teams seemed to be holding back and I think if the Dutch had been little bit more adventurous going forward they would have had it.

Extra time was weird, neither team seemed to (though Argentina prehaps a bit more) worry to much about time running out.

With all the talk of the South American teams it would been good to see two European sides in the final I reckon :P
