Metallica....in the Mosh, will there be a mosh, not in the mosh?

This thread is amazing.

Kingjamma totally nailed it pages back.

Thiscrazypenguin is hugely selfish. More thought fewer words - it's really not that hard to pause justifying your own viewpoint to give time to consider others

Very odd the people having a go at duckie for saying that as a big fella he's probably less bothered by it than smaller folk would be. Just makes me a bit jealous

Praying it's not too crazy - after all apparently I have to be right down front if I want to actually see the stage rather than flags - after all that's just people enjoying the show like they want to, something apparently the penguin supports beyond question

Chairs, blankets, teenagers holding hands so they don't lose each other, people who take drugs, people who don't drugs, kids in onesies, ...some people will always be pissed off with something.

If I want to stay at one place for 2 or 3 bands (Robert Plant followed by Jack White probably this year), I'll probably have a fold up chair or blanket with me. I can't stand up for 4 hours with out some part of my body starting to ache. Why shouldn't I put a blanket on the (possibly) damp and covered in food space that I want to stand up in? I might even want to give my aching back a rest during a set (by having a sit down). Is that allowed?

Oh I didn't mean that. I meant the people who set up chairs on a big blanket and 'claim' the area, and get annoyed when people tread over or through their area to get in/out of a crowded field.

exactly. Imagine people trying this in the rolling stones crowd last year? It would have been absolutely terrifying.

Don't think over crowding is something we need to worry about for Metallica.

I admire penguin's steadfast dedication to his opinion in a way (although steadfast dedication to a disproven idea can lead to bad consequences), but I wish he'd stop using that stupid slanty quotation mark and drop a full stop into his diatribes occasionally.

I hope you find some like-minded people and have a great time at metallica though. I'd just bear in mind that your suggestion of 'just moving away' if a pit opens up is likely to be extremely impractical as you get further toward the stage - and practically impossible in the front section. Maybe find a spot a bit further back.

now... I don't know whether you're taking the piss, winding me up (which I guess is the same) or a little bit agreeing with me..?

or a bit of each....

I'm not for a second suggesting that I should spread out in the middle of Metallica 's set and expect to be left alone

Bit of both but I agree with you. Nowt wrong with a blanket and a chair. As long as its not up the front.

The timing is important though. I've seen people get really pissed off with a crowd moving into "their area" 2 minutes before the main act comes on.

I go to a lot of lively gigs, have never been in a mosh pit, and have no intention of ever being in one. And I always stand near the front. If a pit opens up, I won't go in it. It really is as simple as that. At worst you'll have to take a few steps back/forward/to the side, to get out of the way. And yes, if there is enough room in the crowd for a pit to open up, there is also enough room to step away if necessary.

For me, it's all about atmosphere - it's great seeing the crowd going wild as a meaty riff kicks in. Not necessarily moshing, mind. Nothing worse than a static, unresponsive crowd at a rock gig. Kills the mood, and the band will sense it.

I didnt want to quote that....damn mobiles!

Pits are sound as long as there is space, front and middle at the pyramid there is never space. Hope there is no trouble but can forsee a couple of kick offs.

Not me though, im into peace and love so won't be anywhere near all the smelly sweats there that night x

As I and others have said many times. First full on metal band at Glastonbury.

Michael Eavis has had a lot of reservations.

If there's a problem or anyone gets hurt.

Last full on metal band at Glastonbury - down to you boys, your choice.

Anyone slams into me or mine, they will fall over.
