Metallica....in the Mosh, will there be a mosh, not in the mosh?

Nor do moshers......if your in the pit your not an `innocent bystander` noone is thrown in there who doesnt want to be there and no we dont go out and throw random members of the crowd to the floor.

How is the "pit" formed then? By your own admission it involves pushing people backwards.

Dangerous violent behaviour that has no place at a festival of contemporary performing arts.

Or is pushing people over a contemporary performing art? If so, my mistake and I apologise profusely.

Sadly not always the case! Seen huge tools pushing large parts of the crowd forward to make this happen, made my blood boil, because that can be seriously dangerous. Never going back to Reading Festival after that, I should have heeded the warnings.

Yep, don't know if you were at Foo's at Reading but it was awful. Arctic Monkeys were also very bad. Seems to happen with bands and fests with a younger audience..

No but in order to make room for your pit, lots of other people have to move or they will be a part of it. Theres not a whole lot of room up near the front in the Pyramid Field.

Ill ask again - why don't you go down the back where theres lot of room and mosh away there?

Despite many 1,000s of words from the pro-moshing brigade I see nothing but selfish potentially irresponsible horseshit.

As has been pointed out numerous times, this festival is more important than a few pissed up testosterone-charged gits and their need to rub up against each other to music.

Aye think it was for the Foo's, seemed to be like it for most acts, apart from The Cure thank god! A lot of the young'uns seemed to think it was boring because the crowd wasn't swaying and moshing to every song, thought they were sublime as usual!

Because thats where I'll be stood watching the gig away from the pit and potential moshing, im a metal fan but cant understand how the so called metal fans arent going to be further up the field to fully appreciate the full spectacle of Metallica on the pyramid, no, theyre going to waste their time banging into each other like loons just like every other time they've seen a metal band.

Bloody Metal heads, remember when everyone stood and appreciated Blur?

Don't see any moshing there. Just a lot of people jumping up and down and singing and enjoying themselves. Fantastic.

I get the feeling some people don't understand what moshing is.

Despite many 1,000s of words from the pro-moshing brigade I see nothing but selfish potentially irresponsible horseshit.

Why don't you go down the back? Silence

The festival organisers and owners don't want it at the festival? Silence

It unavoidably creates a squash in other areas of the crowd. Silence

Reminds of the Brasseye paedo episode where the paedo starts going on about anti paedos discriminating against them.

Rubbish isn't it? And sad you have to go down the back to guarantee you'll enjoy it.

This, I'm a big rock/metal fan, as I think a fair few of the non-Moshy Monsters are, but I won't be at the front because the loonies are taking it over apparently

and ill say again since you seem to be avoiding the question why dont you have a problem with other types of crowd behavior which force you to move to carry on getting a good view etc?

why arent you on your highhorse when dance fans etc get livly and jump around into each other? c

I was up the front for the Prodigy in 2009 and that happened. I was jumping. But not sideways. There was no room to! No issue with that.

But creating a huge space in the middle of all that is a different matter. And I've been in that situation too. a few times.

In the pit in Rock Am Ring. Pit broke out behind me so I wasn't even aware of it to see it. Some twat used the "oh but someone pushed me" excuse as a red flag to continually jump into my missus back. Turned around just as he was doing it for a 5th time, and saw that he clearly wasn't pushed. A swift puck in the face sorted it out and the pit stopped.

Have no recollection of what song was on either. Missed it as I was too busy dealing with cretins.

From reading this, I want an answer as to why people can't mosh where there is more room at the back?

Its a great question.

You can't complain about space in a crowd if you're bring hockey equipment into it mate.

loudness? intensity? the band being right as close to you as possible?

Surely you won't notice, you'll be too busy flinging each other around?

the people who have made the effort to be down the front more likly to be people who really like the band and know the music?..

And want to actually watch them?

why do you get the most crowd reaction in ANY genre of music closer to the stage? loudness? intensity? the band being right as close to you as possible? the people who have made the effort to be down the front more likly to be people who really like the band and know the music?....take your pick but that goes for any crowd response....youll find a lot more people going nuts down the front then down the back at any gig metal or not. so if your trying to make a point its groundless once again.

No it's not groundless. You're in the minority yet you're expecting everyone to conform to your needs on foot of a bizarre sense of entitlement.

well then your problem is with assholes not with moshers mate you get assholes in all situations in all crowds so whats your point? so youve had one bad experience and you want to stereotype us all as like that guy? does that mean I can stereotype every dance fan as a drugged up chav because ive seen a couple? you can tell someone has no argument when they have to pick the worst example to base their predjudice on...........I hate moshers because someone in a pit was an asshole once to me........fine then what about all those who werent?

I've been in loads of pits, front, back, sides etc. They're always a pain in the arse to anyone who doesn't want to be involved.

Ive heard some of the most hardcore metalheads say the same and seen them react in the same way I did.
