Metallica....in the Mosh, will there be a mosh, not in the mosh?

yes because noone who goes upfront for Metallica will be expecting any mosh-pits to happen, Jesus christ if nothing else your doing people incredible disservice when you assume they are all going to be that naive!

And your naivety might just get you a "swift puck".

Only "circle pit" I can recall at the fest recently was at Enter Shakiri and that's cuz that helmet of a bass player was actively encouraging it. Think there's footage of his at it. Berk.

Muse in 2010 had one, my back ached like fuck after that for an hour....I was in the "magical protective wall of people" facing the stage ...eventually for the last few songs I had to give up and moved behind it.

I am not quite how I feel about moshing still, even after this thread. On the one hand I quite like the idea of a mosh pit but I've always thought it looks more fun than it actually is when you are actually in one. I have enjoyed a couple of them for smaller bands/in smaller venues....... on the other hand I can understand how at times they can be scary as fuck if you are not involved/it breaks out unexpetedly. Especially at the front of the Pyramid.

Proper moshers seem to have good intentions of keeping everyone safe, but it is the reality of the space you are in and the people around you really. My main gripe with this thread, is that its never seemed an issue with other bands at Glastonbury so why Metellica?

Thats a lot of waffle to basically say I am confused about my feelings on the matter.

as is anyone who does any form of dancing or gets excitied in a crowd, theyre assuming everyone next to them and around them is ok with it.......people jumping up and down could be considered a nusicne as they block the view from those behind them....why is that acceptable in a crowd when moshing isnt? is that not a sense of entitlement? your argument seems to rest on the fact you assume moshers whos actions at a gig are the only ones who have any impact on the crowd around them,.....thats total bullshit as is your argument.

Hahaha is this the best you've got? Pathetic.

Go and mosh up the back with your smelly mates where there's loads of room. The rest of us want to enjoy the gig - not concentrate on avoiding odious low-IQ high-testosterone gits like you and yer silly mates.

oh yes you sound like a hardcore mosher my friend if you really had been youd know why we do it and you wouldnt have such a fucking chip on your shoulder about it so cut the crap ok its as easy to see through as a window :P

Why do you do it? Is it a rebellious thing? A gay thing? A small cock thing?

I really don't know why you would go see a band you apparently like and spend your time jumping into sweaty men.

My main gripe with this thread, is that its never seemed an issue with other bands at Glastonbury so why Metellica?

Because this seems to be the green light for a lot of these halfwits. Its like mosh heaven. Finally the biggest heavy band ever and its going to be the biggest mosh ever.

Moshing during Muse though!

Penguin, if you're younger than 13 I apologise as I completely understand in that case. Kids acting the bollocks is fine. I was worse than most when I was 12 or 13.

But if you're older than that and not trolling, genuinely, read back over the last few pages and start re-evaluating your life.

Hahaha is this the best you've got? Pathetic.

I'm starting to think hes a child and people need to go easy him.

thats my gripe as well mate but noone seems to be answering that question, I dont see these kind of responses to any other genre of music or any other band or fans? and yet it goes on a lot I myself posted video proof of that earlier of even just last year.....the answer is simple, these people dont really care about crowd safty or any of this other bollocks they just have a problem with metal fans and acting like moshers are evil incarnate is their way of cracking down on metal fans they dont want metal at `thier festival` and this is one way they put us down.........it would be offensive but its so fucking funny as they dont seem to realize how obvious such predjudice is when the arguments used make completly no sense.

killjoys, freedom hating facists and predjudiced assholes simple as.

see you in the pit good luck trying to `puck` me for enjoying myself if thats what gets your kicks then what kind of a person are you?

Actually you silly little boy, I and others do want metal and rock at Glastonbury, you lot as previously stated couldn't give a toss though!

Behaving in this way is the best way to ensure that it won't happen again.

theyre so butthurt that metal fans are getting the time of day they want to crack down on us, assholes determined to spoil the good time of metal fans because they find a metal band headlining glastonbury offensive somehow........

I'm a metal fan. Have always wanted more metal at the festival. People like you are the reason it doesn't happen more often.

Haven't read most of this thread but I hope people that are hating on mosh pits realise that there is a certain etiquette involved in it, like no deliberately punching people in the face, if somebody goes down you help them up etc. A lot of bands encourage those kinds of rules, Dave Grohl has told the crowd to look out for each other in the mosh pits every time I have seen The Foo Fighters live.

The majority of people in mosh pits aren't assholes, but if you take part in one you do run this risk of getting hurt. I got drop kicked in the face during Enter Shikari one year at Reading. A bit annoying but I know that by entering the mosh pit under my own free will, there is a chance that I may get hurt. 9 times out of 10 I don't get hurt though, because most people aren't assholes.

And you don't like mosh pits, the obvious solution is just to not stand near one! You're at a festival with thousands of other young drunk/high people who enjoy throwing themselves around a bit to music, deal with it.

As for Metallica at Glastonbury, personally I can see there being 2 or 3 mosh pits towards to front of the crowd, but from my experience at Glastonbury these will be nothing in comparison to the kind of circle pits, walls of death etc that I have seen at Reading over the years.

There's a clip of the Fun Loving Criminals where the audience is very 'lively', often accompanied with comments saying that was the good ol' days......

I'm confused

yet again

go back to sleep tony. You seem to be having difficulty differentiating between "dancing" and "moshing".

None of us could give a fiddlers about the safety or otherwise of these young lads participating in moshing. We're concerned with the enjoyment of everyone else and the stability of the festival's reputation and license.

Bouncing is what they are doing, alongside each other, not into each other.

The Scooby Snacks performance? Mass-pogoing dear boy. Vintage actually. Looked incredible and has FARK all to do with moshing.

oh yes your all metal fans yet you have no idea about what actully goes on in a mosh pit and have fed me every redicious stereotype under the tree, I know metal fans who dont like to mosh of course they exist I dont know any metal fans with such an `anti` intolerant attitude as you 2 though or know any metal fans seemengly so clueless about even what moshing basically is about so again cut the crap lads.

Couldn't give a stuff what happens in the "pit" - you obviously all get semi's from the rubbing and the testosterone - I'm bothered about what happens around it, in front of it and behind it.

Jumping up and down is fine of course. I'd do it to a police siren after a few whiskeys. No harm to anyone.

20 witless imbeciles creating a large hole in the middle of a crowd (by making other people move in a place where there isn't room to begin with) and then all of them piling in and shoulder barging and pushing each other randomly is called moshing.

Its what Michael Eavis said that he doesn't want to see at the festival on numerous occasions and the reason hes been so hesitant in booking heavier acts.

They look like this.

From reading this, I want an answer as to why people can't mosh where there is more room at the back?

You can't determine where a mosh pit happens. If enough people are up for it in any space then one could break out at any given time. The best thing for anybody to do is be aware that they may happen and react accordingly - ie. get out of the way or risk getting injured if you don't want to get involved in it. Don't, for god's sake sit in a camping chair and remain in the middle of one out of bloody mindedness.

that's dancing?

someone here said moshing is just jumping up and down

supposedly it's pushing backwards until you have formed a circle of space in the crowd, then running into each other and pushing and shoving each other to the floor.

I believe it's based on baboons mating rituals.
