the ones at glastonbury wont look anything like that you witless moron have you not listened to a word anyones said? even us moshers admit they will be smaller and calmer then is the norm as we are aware of the situation(no matter how much you try to make out we dont care) so nice try but you just showed yourself up for a slandering twat again didnt you?

"Slandering"

"Us moshers"?

As if you're some minority group and not a load of idiots. This is a standard pit. Not too violent or busy. And down the back. How thoughtful of them.

Very different to jumping up and down.

Sorry, comparing a subculture of decent people to paedophiles is a really c**tish thing to do.

Was obviously said in jest! Fucks sake.

Anyway. Its a subculture? Really?

wow do ever miss the point, it was very awesome to see a bloke willing to not let his disability ruin what he liked to do actully, a lot of the crowd were saying how awesome he was for even attempting it even the security gave him a round of applause as he came down haha im not the biggest fan of crowd surfers because unlike moshpits you dont know where they are and when they are coming(however I wouldnt tell them not to do it as unlike some I belive in freedom of expression) but in that context it was just wicked.

Hmm. Not quite sure how being disabled suddenly makes doing a dickhead-y thing inspiring.

supposedly it's pushing backwards until you have formed a circle of space in the crowd, then running into each other and pushing and shoving each other to the floor.

I believe it's based on baboons mating rituals.

Baboons are more bloody civilised than that!!

you mean the very much taking part people who were helping him do so? trust me everyone was looking at the dude haha

Thing is Penguin, was this at Glastonbury? I've been to metal gigs and festivals that have had all sorts. There's a video on YouTube of Mr Blobbly in a circle pit during Lamb of God's set at Download 2012 for god's sake, but at Glastonbury, people are called Persephone, read The Guardian, take trips to Southwold, will come carrying solar showers and worry their Hunter wellies will be too dirty to see Elbow.

That's a generalisation - my apologies - but the idea is generally speaking, the sort of people who go to Glastonbury aren't the sort of people you'd find at Download. It's awesome Metallica are at Glastonbury, but it's an odd choice for that festival when a very small percentage of the people who WOULD see Metallica at Download aren't going to Glastonbury, so the idea of seeing a man in a wheelchair somewhere like that is 'unorthodox' much in the same way a Mosh Pit is. My concern with this thread and my intention here is to educate rather than attack people on the fact that so long as they get out of the way of a mosh pit when they occur (and they will), there won't be any problems. It's inevitable.

This.

Totally, but it's not Download.

As you said.

And it's ok giving us advice to move out of the way of a MP but what about the hundreds of people who won't get it.

Or the few (few!!) drunks who will join in?

It would make me happier knowing that some people who read these forums saw my posts and felt differently about how to react when faced with a mosh pit. I can't discuss it with everybody, unfortunetly, but I'm doing my bit by talking on here and that gives me some sense of satisfaction knowing I could potentially stop people from fighting at a festival known for it's family friendly atmosphere.

Good for you. I think you're wrong, but at least you have good intentions! :D It's a better approach than calling people fascists...

I've no issue with you enjoying it, lovely, but not when it impinges on everybody else? Go to the back!

And you still haven't explained why you don't care enough about your favourite sort of music to try to ensure that there might be future rock/metal bands at Glastonbury.

This thread is marvellously entertaining though. Penguin means well and just seems to be a bit over-excited! I hope when we meet we'll put our difference of opinion on this to the side. :)

I think it should be a very simple formula. Is what I'm doing going to negatively impact on more people's experiences than those which it positively impacts? If yes, avoid. If no, feel free.

Moshing involves making spaces in a crowd, big or small is irrelevant. At the front of the pyramid there is very little space. So making a gap alone is going to piss quite a few people off.

I think what will happen will be a few moshes towards the front for Metallica. Nobody will be seriously hurt, and the moshers will come on here and claim the moral victory. But there will be hundreds of people whose experience of the set was diminished by having to keep a look out for sweaty flying people. Whether that's acceptable to the moshers or not, I don't know.

Saying that 'you don't complain about moshing at dance acts' is a bit of a non sequitur too. This thread specifically talks about Metallica, and was started by a pro-Mosher. If there had been a thread last year saying 'hey, let's all have a mosh at Chase & Status', I'm sure the same people will have been voicing their disapproval. Actually, and unfortunately, I think there'd have been far greater use of the word 'chav' - at least you don't have that to contend with (not saying russy, wooderson, the nal etc would use that word).

Live and let live, sure, but when your 'living' impacts negatively on others, just have a think before you go ahead.

And stop throwing the word fascist around, it devalues it for when it's really needed.

Edit: bloody phone wrote 'Lodging' instead of 'Moshing'. Made me look like a right twat.

I think you'd be naive to assume you can wrap an entire festival up in cotton wool, or it's audience. It is a family friendly festival but it's also a place for a lot of people to go and enjoy themselves, and one way people - metal fans - enjoy themselves is by moshing. Be aware that it could occur. It might not occur at all and everything both you, I and everybody else says could be wasted time on here, but if it does then be aware of it and take care of yourself by moving away from it.

If the mosh pit comes to you, push it away - that's the whole point anyway - but don't elbow some poor sod trying to have a good time or just because you weren't quick enough to move your missus back when one breaks out. In fact, in that situation I'd like to think you were taking care of your missus when she's hurt rather than worrying about getting revenge on some kid who probably didn't see you but is deeply sorry and should have been more careful and responsible.

Skrillex will also be the place for a good mosh....

It will be but he clashes with Arcade Fire. It's a clash my missus will never forgive the organisers for, but she also happens to be pregnant so we won't be going into any mosh pits anyway. All the power to those who do and remember to keep safe and look out for each other.

ive tried to explain how any pits at glastonbury will be safer and less violent then normal

As it happens, I don't think they will be and the reason being that most of those in them aren't metalheads - they're Glastonbury festival go-er's, and as such they don't necessarily understand what etiquette metalheads apply to Mosh Pits, which is why I'd encourage anybody, doubley, to avoid them and move back if they don't want to get involved.

because thats a fucking stupid question thats why, moshpits have been done at glasto before and they will continue to, as long as they are done in a safe and responsable way they cause no problems thats evidenced by sets that have already taken places.

fuck me I was in a pit last year for chase and status and enter shikari......I didnt see any reports of people carried out mortally wounded or eavis calling for bans in the future did you? no? well point proven, such a situation isnt going to arise so spare me your hypothetical bs

Try to formulate a reply without swearing will you, you mother fucking little prick xD

So these pits. were they at the front of the Pyramid Stage on Saturday night? No?

You are personally going to ensure that the MPs are "opened up" in a safe and responsible manner and don't have any impact whatsoever on anyone else? No?
