Metallica....in the Mosh, will there be a mosh, not in the mosh?

im done trying to reason with these people. ive tried to explain how any pits at glastonbury will be safer and less violent then normal and how people will look out for each other all the more being aware of the situation, but I just got shouted down by idiots calling me a thug and all the rest....so fuck it. Last responsable answer I give in this thread. dave me you and a few others have tried to be responsable but these idiots just dont get it, ignore it if it doesnt suit their own argument or even straiight up make up lies and slander if it helps their point(and I havnt forgotten being compared to a pedophile group earlier.........that was low even for a forum troll and shows how far these people will sink just to win a forum argument) fuck it from now on im just laughing at them, no point talking to those without the wit to understand what your talking about.

I really hope I'm not one of these 'idiots'. I think I've tried to be reasonable too. I think most people aren't concerned about behaviour in the pit - you people look out for each other (although you can't be sure everyone will know 'the rules' at a non-metal event). People are saying that, by definition, opening up a space in the crowd where there is very little space is a pretty selfish thing to do. Hard to see how you could do it responsibly, without negatively impacting other people's enjoyment of the gig.

I predict more dangerous behaviour at Skrillex than Metallica - especially if it r@#%s. That field can get awful muddy.

I experienced moshing to Electronic music (as in, not bands....) at Creamfields last year. Knife Party and also Jaguar Skills....

It worried me at first, thought everyone was kicking off but even though they were barging, bouncing, and pushing, there appeared to be some 'rules' to it all.

Live and let live I say. Express yourself how you see fit but don't harm those around you.

Try to formulate a reply without swearing will you, you mother fucking little prick xD

So these pits. were they at the front of the Pyramid Stage on Saturday night? No?

You are personally going to ensure that the MPs are "opened up" in a safe and responsible manner and don't have any impact whatsoever on anyone else? No?

No but obviously we should all expect it because it's Metallica!

As it happens, I don't think they will be and the reason being that most of those in them aren't metalheads - they're Glastonbury festival go-er's, and as such they don't necessarily understand what etiquette metalheads apply to Mosh Pits, which is why I'd encourage anybody, doubley, to avoid them and move back if they don't want to get involved.

This this this this this. Seems to be the main point missed by Penguin - I don't doubt his intentions, I doubt those of people who don't know 'the rules' as it were.

This, thanks Dave.

Metalheads are alright and it's unfair to judge them; they have better morals than most you'd find at somewhere like Latitude or V where it's a toss up between "I would agree, the crowd has become less Dege & Skinner and more Superdry *spits*" and "best place 2 score drugzz!!1?" (actual quotes pulled from my Facebook). They're less cavemen than they are human and the attitude of some people on here sickens me towards metalheads; and to think I'll be sharing a field with this scum.

That said however, when those people whose status' I quoted are in a mosh pit, that's the time when mosh pits become dangerous, because as you say, it's because they don't understand the etiquette. Most at a Metal festival would understand when somebody pushes you; a Scouse kid covered in UV paint off his face on coke getting his whistle ripped out of his mouth by a kid from the Cotswolds will take it personally, and then trouble ensues. Hence why you should stand back. That's my only concern with the mosh pits. Otherwise, most will be in them to have a good time.

Nothing against metalheads in the slightest, nothing against mosh pits. I bloody love metal and rock.

I think, as stated by both Daves above, that a Glastonbury crowd is different to a metal crowd for a lot of reasons. And this needs to be recognised.

Agree with most of this - aside from the use of 'Scouse' - bit unnecessary that.

I've no doubt that moshing is relatively safe when a crowd of people who are aware of the etiquette are doing it - what some people don't seem to realise is there are an unfortunate number of nobheads at Glastonbury. Some of those might see a pit open up and think it's a good opportunity for a fight.

I also think that the opening of the pit itself is the biggest danger, rather than the moshing. Can't say I agree with the whole 'just move away' line. You move away and you put somebody else in the position that you've realised you don't want to be in.

WOW! my phone has been red hot with notifications on this thread all day! Can't believe you have kept it up for so long! :)

Keep the MP at the back..it's just annoying and anti social and spoils it for everyone else. As a woman, I've been pushed and hurt quite a few times by pissed up idiots who don't give a shit, you really can't really tell me you are ALL sensible and responsible???} come on! When everyone's pissed up..it's no teddy bears picnic... It's all well in theory, but doesn't translate in practice.

Clearly the women should know their place and be at the back of the crowd. Stupid of you to think you could be safe watching a gig down front*spits* bad taste sorry

No no, you're right. I should allow the real men to be free to express their inner gibbon.

If it happens around me at Glastonbury, I probably would move out of the way but only because I'm a coward and not because I'm thinking 'live and let live.' In my opinion, it's a selfish and mindless way of acting at a gig, regardless of genre (it isn't just exclusive to metal, I know).

I feel the same way about people who flail their arms about in a crowded area and end up elbowing people in the stomach and hitting people in the face. It may be accidental and they may have just been trying to enjoy themselves, but if it's detrimental to someone else's enjoyment of the show, it's shitty. It should be the person flailing about who moves somewhere else if they wish to act in a way that requires more space then there actually is.

Also, to suggest that you should be able to spot people who like to mosh and therefore should situate yourself accordingly, does seem to suggest that there is some kind of stereotypical way that 'moshers' look or act. Some people are very keen to dispel any notion of stereotypical behaviour whilst also suggesting it should be used to choose your spot which is very contradictory. What should people be looking for if there's nothing to look for?
