Metal fans deluded sense of entitlement always makes me smile.

Nah, not at all, it's understandable, they're wild eyed loners who don't play by the rules, they flout convention, they stand apart from society, go their own way, and are all broodingly charismatic. Modern day cowboys, really.

Hope yee enjoy yer little mosh for Metallica kiddies. First and last chance at the fest.

Why do I have this image in my head right now?

You do realize you're acting among the most immature out of everyone in this thread? And yet still feel like using words like 'kiddies' to somehow get over the fact that you're somehow more mature than the rest of us?

In a way I'm actually kind of glad you're getting so worked up about it because I feel like you kind of deserve it?

Can I ask a favour? I'm not off to see Metallica, but please could people mosh the fuck out of the chair brigade at the front? I'll consider it revenge for the shit behaviour of some of those at the Paul Simon gig in 2011.

Good point, I'm not even going to be at Metallica.

What the fuck am I even doing in this thread then?

Have a fantastic festival guys I'm going to be watching Jon Hopkins or Mogwai instead.

your talking about going to watch a metal band and expect metal fans to not act the way they always do to the band they love.

So should we expect the majority (think democracy here) of the whole crowd to be moshing then? For your arguments to stand up then that would have to be the case, surely? Otherwise there's a chance that you'll just be a very small subset rather than representative of the whole.

I'm as big a Metallica fan as any of yee. REALLY looking forward to it - highlight of this year if I'm honest.

Don't have to have physical contact with other like minded people to enjoy this or express my enjoyment however. And seeing as there's kids and older festival goers at this I've their interests at heart. I'll quite easily/readily temper my enjoyment somewhat to ensure the common good is maintained. It's not a Metallica show. It's Glastonbury festival. Big difference.

to me it just sounds like a few stubborn arseholes who sound determined to try and stop people doing what they love because theyve a fucking chip on their shoulder.

So you genuinely think that if a census was taken at Glastonbury that our perspective would be in the minority to that of your own? You even say yourself that moshing isn't universal at metal festivals, 'mate'. Incredible.

In addition to the above, what is the chip on my shoulder? Apologies, that should read 'fucking' chip. The words you use such as fucking and stubborn arseholes within the context speak volumes.

I think the vociferous way in which you put your argument thatcrazypenguin, your tone, the language you use...

...whilst passionate, kinda undermines your own point to quite a large degree.

I admire the really very serious degree of time and effort you have put into defending your own POV today...it shows utter committment.

This has been going on for some time now...i don't think i'm wrong in stating that i was reading this today during the odd break at work...

But, jeeez, dude.

Let it go.

Attempting to 'win' an utterly subjective argument with people who have a totally valid, opposing subjective opinion is just not going to happen.

Caveat: That's all i have to say on the subject and won't be drawn further.

yeah i've been thinking this for some time but couldn't be bothered to mention it. the passion is admirable, but at the end of the day, completely pointless. writing an essay isn't going to change somebody's mind

It really is a case of banging head against wall syndrome here. It's not really the moshing that bothers me, it's the "we're having a mosh pit here because WE want one, if you don't like it then YOU have to move, I don't care that you had a good spot and were having the time of your life and I've now ruined that" attitude that I can't stand. And the whole "if you stand next to a pit then it's your own fault if you get hit and don't like it" argument doesn't stand. Mosh pits don't start until after the band start playing and in random places. Therefore you could think you're standing in a perfectly fine spot thinking you're away from moshers, then all of a sudden five songs in one opens up and you are now on the edge of one. You didn't choose to stand next to one, you were forced, and that is what pisses people off. You can't tell where a pit will open up until the band start playing, therefore people are always forced to stand next to a pit, and not choose to.
