Since the big fence, have you ever had your tent burgled or an attempted burglary, and if so where were you camped?

I've always kipped in Pennards (09,10,11, 13) and never had anything stolen. I've come back and found my outer tent zip undone but nothing has ever gone - there's nothing to go tbh.

Possibly had a crate of cider or beers stolen one year but in all honesty I couldn't tell you if I had or if I'd just got too into the spirit and drank/given a full crate away.

I'm usually in a state that causes me to sleep fully clothed - wellies included - and half hanging out of my tent but I don't take anything of value - mobile, if I take one, is a £10 cheapo and my camera is eight years old etc.

Wednesday night, 2013, in Oxlyers. I woke up Thursday morning to find the inside and outside of my tent open, my wallet emptied. Losing the money pissed me off, but the fact that I was right there, sleeping, and someone was in my tent right next to me really shook me up. Lock ups for me this year.

This thread is actually terrifying.. I'm going as a first timer and was planning on using the lockups anyway but its the thought of people entering your tent whilst your sleeping

How do you use the lock ups? I'm imagining it being like they give you a ticket like when you put your coat in a cloakroom? what happens if you lose that ticket? what happens if someone else finds it and goes to the lock up and they hand over all your stuff to them? I'm sure there is a proper system, but having never use them I dont know how they work?

The tickets come come in 2 parts, one part with the number of the ticket and location of the lockup (which is the bit you keep), on the other part they take name and address details, (which gets attached to your item) they then ask you to confirm these details with you when you check the item out. There's also a carbon copy of the ticket that remains in the ticket book so they can look you up if you loose the ticket.

Top tip is to take a photo of the ticket number with your phone or write it down on a separate piece of paper in case you loose it.

Not me, but my friends girlfriend got her stuff nicked from the dairy fields in 2010. Some scumbag slashed their tent open and made off with her bag, whilst they were sleep.

Since that I keep all my money in a wallet which is attached to my jeans in case, A) (most likely), I fall over pissed and it falls out of my pocket or B ) someone tries to pick pocket me. It goes in a secret pocket in my sleeping bag when I'm sleeping so I'm all sorted.

looking at it from a different angle

has anyone caught someone in there or someone else tent?

and what did you do?

and what can you do if you see someone in someone else tent that you don't think should be in there?

obviously the norm oi what you doing? who are you etc, go tell the nearest police/steward but by the time you tell someone they are long gone and id feel sorry that someones stuff was long gone, especially when you could be on your own, im sure they wont work alone

Camped in South Park last year and someone in our group had their wallet nicked on Thursday night I think. Pretty sure it was in a spot close to their head, maybe even under their pillow; somewhere that you thought would be OK. As others have also said the feeling that someone had got so close while they were asleep didn't make them feel great either.

2011 camped in Bushy and had stewards come round telling us to be careful due to number of thefts the previous night but we were OK.

Last year, on the Wednesday or Thursday night in Rivermead, heard someone unzipping our tent. Called out and they claimed they were the police just doing the zip up for us as they had seen it open! Spoke to the campsite stewards the next morning and apparently a few tents in the area had been robbed that night.

If I remember correctly there's a bit more to the lockups than just handing you a ticket, which they keep the other half of. They take all your details, which besides being used to reunite you with your property if you forget to collect anything at the end of the festival, are also used to identify you when you collect something. So even if someone found your ticket they'd have to know your details to get your stuff out.

Will be at kidney mead this year, can i use the lockup at the bottom of family, or would this be family only due to the gate?

Also just want yo warn that in 09 i had a thief in my tent, and when he accidentally eoke me, he put a knife to my face ! Again pennards.. I wouldn't suggest challenging them, unless you are very confident..

They are professionals and thats why I dont understand posters who dont mind people paying security to come in hidden in vans.

After they have done their night shift on the tents they seem to head over to the stages to look for money and drugs before we start our shift at 6 am. They will often walk past us jeering and waving the stuff they have found. It may be completely different people but my cynical side says its unlikely.

Got robbed of a ton when I was asleep in Dairy Ground last year. This happened between 0300 and 0600 Thursday morning. A first for me. After 08,09,10,11 and numerous other festivals beforehand without being a victim...or knowing anyone one else who was.

The night after someone else in our camp was robbed a matter of yards away.

I woke up to find all tent flaps open and knew immediately what had happened. My bum bag was in the porch with all money removed but all else untouched - including debit card, driving licence etc. Obviously they were only after the cash. I had put said bum bag underneath my head...so the scrotes in question had come right inside my tent, right next to me and removed the bag. Creepy. Normally I would have had the bag inside my sleeping bag so I think I was a bit wasted when I retired.

I think they target tents where they hear snoring and a time of 'night' when the majority of people have gone to bed and those still awake are wasted. I snore like a drain. I was told afterwards that there had been some arrests and those in custody were disguised as security.

I have been more freaked out by the thought of what would have happened if I had woken up during the robbery. Obviously this year I will not be carrying round large amounts of cash for long periods of time and using the lock-up and there will be various methods of detecting intruders in my tent.

As they say, there's no fool like an old fool. Yes the thieves are knuckle scraping scum bags...I hope they die of cat AIDS.... but equally I did fall short in protecting my money on this occasion.

I have mentioned this before but will again here because I think it may be of use to some. I tie a set of bells like these

cbl-500x500.jpg

to the inside zip of my tent when I go to sleep (if I get to sleep!). The idea is that should a thief use the zip they will shake the bells and create a noise (it does work, I've tried it). I'm hoping that this would either wake me up (I'm a light sleeper) or better still make them move away in search of easier prey. I've heard it on here that people do a similar thing with a string of beer cans. I'm still going to use a lock up though. It's just that it would be nice to be awake if a thief comes into my tent. Depending on my circumstances at the time I then would get the chance to shout out or even go violently psycho. Not something I'm prone to do given my pacifist nature but who knows how they would react when trying to protect their wife and belongings.

So bearing this in mind, I should also probably not put the ticket straight into my wallet, along with my ID that contains all my address info etc on it, just incase I lose that, or it gets taken from me? Or perhaps provide a relative or fellow glasto companions address? At least I would remember that I had a different address associated with the ticket stub. Or am I over thinking it?
