Wooderson
80-90m on squad players seems a lot of money. 80-90m will (maybe) include Louvren and Bony. Both are starters. We tried to buy Sanchez. He wasn't interested. We don't have the pull of the other 4 "bigger" sides (yet). Reus and Drax would be equally laughable punts. Nae hope of signing either. Moreno has also said no-no. We'll basically never be able to replace Suarez. 31 goals, 14 assists, 15 MOM performances. So the club have decided to mine mid-table sides for youngish players. Have a better squad and just aim for 4th next year.
eFestivals
80-90m on squad players seems a lot of money.yep, but no team near the top had anything like as thin a squad. It needed padding out.Whether what's exactly been done are good moves or not is another thing tho. I guess we'll have to wait and see (I'm not hopeful). I have been surprised the level of the players Liverpool have been signing. I thought they would of been at a level to push in for the league. Perhaps they are being sensible and want to see if being in the champions league is a yearly occurrence.
eFestivals
Thinner than United's?Much!!!Utd were shit, not thin.I have been surprised the level of the players Liverpool have been signing. I thought they would of been at a level to push in for the league.Without Suarez, pushing on for the league is unrealistic. Consolidating their top 4 position is the realistic target. If they'd kept Suarez, these players (if they live up to their price tags) are probably enough to make the difference to win the league.Remember, they only missed out by a smidgen, and that smidgen was the more the result of a thin squad than it was any other single factor across the whole season.I'd say that what's most surprising so far with the signings is that none have been defenders. That's the easiest place to Liverpool to make a significant improvement next season.Perhaps they are being sensible and want to see if being in the champions league is a yearly occurrence. That's quite possibly high in their minds, but I also think it's about trying to find great young prospects (remember, that's what Fenway are supposedly about). They can't buy a player of Suarez's proven abilities (or even perhaps a fair bit lower), but they can buy a player who might have Suarez's abilities a few years from now. It took Suarez 3 years to hit those heights as well, don't forget.

If you look at last season's squad (or more correctly, those who played a lot), the majority were pretty young. In fact, Suarez at 27 classes as an oldie. This coming season it's likely that both of Gerrard and Lucas (if still even there) will play much less, reducing the squad age even further. The Fenway plan isn't to have only kids, remember. It's to identify them as kids and then still have them in their best years later on.So my guess is that they want some balance to the squad, rather than having it staffed only with kids.As for Lambert, I think he's there more as a bargain than anything else. A striker of that quality for that price is almost unheard of. Edited July 16, 2014 by eFestivals

As for 'big' signings, Sanchez's family wanted London didn't they and from all reports think Moreno was dead keen to move (wouldn't have pursued for this long without that) but our stance is we won't pay £20m for hum... yet. Not making any judgements on the window as a whole with so long left to go. Edited July 16, 2014 by strummer77
Essex_George
Getting tickets for Liverpool games is worse than trying to get Glastonbury tickets. Got in the queue online this morning at just after 8:30am, waited for nearly 2 hours only for the games to sell out! Three games got released today to members, Hull, Stoke and Swansea at home. More games get released tomorrow so will be trying again.

Me and a mate only did the latter but managed to get some not very 'restricted view' for Hull and Stoke after an hour.
strummer77
Does every Liverpool fan think Sanchez signed for Arsenal purely because his family wanted to live in London? Nothing is black and white - he may well have gone there regardless - but London had a big part to play in it when it was spoken about in Italian press. Of course other factors play their own parts but most suggested he was keen to go to London - it is certainly a draw for foreign players. The City of Libpool would be emptied if it wasn't for gangsters threatening everyone to stay. They didn't have Sanchez' mobile thassall. Wooderson
Zubizarreta's "Nobody's perfect" on Suarez is reminiscient of Sutcliffe's agent in Brasseye.
pink_triangle
I have said it before, but why anyone would want to live in London ahead of Liverpool is beyond me. Its one of my biggest regrets in life not moving to Liverpool, when I worked in the Wirral, fantastic city. It makes sense Liverpool increasing their squad size, but in the past they had a big squad and not enough quality. Im hoping for one big signing to supplement the increased depth. I get the impression that gerrard wants to play every game, with him being captain and (with Suarez leaving) comfortably the biggest name in the club, he has huge influence. He may give the league cup a miss, but I suspect when fit he will be the first name on the teamsheet.

How does Gerrard react if left out of a big game, not sure it's ever happened before. Will be a challenge for Rodgers, but likely it will have to happen one day
