stupidly high price, but no more stupid than Utd paid for Shaw.

It'll be interesting to see which of the two got the better deal. Both players have mostly passed me by so this is a rating by manager/club only - and I suspect that Wenger has paid £10M less for the better player.

I have to admit the player that Arsenal have bought has completely passed me by as well. I haven't even heard him being hyped up. He has probably gone to the best club to develop.

Close to 30m.

I don't see the price as an issue, if his good or crap is more the question.

Not seen enough of Southampton's games to Make an informed descision.

Saying that Herrera going to be a good signing.

Regarding the price I agree, if you end up with a Lahm/Cole standard full back it is money well spent. As you say he will be judged on performance. In some ways left back is a good place to come into a team, as there wont be the same expectations as an attacking midfielder or forward and he should be given some time.

Oh the irony!

Have you seen our record at those places (barring Tottenham) anyway?!

 I was thinking the same thing ...in fact, most away games if we went a goal down let alone the big sides.

Looks like West Ham are close to getting Carl Jenkinson on loan with an option to buy. Good move!

This made me sad, the planning application for the Boleyn Ground has gone up https://www.westhamtillidie.com/posts/2014/07/29/950-homes-to-rise-from-boleyn-ground-ashes :(

Marco Reus rejecting a new contract from Dortmund is an interesting development. I wonder if he is angling for a move or just more cash. Apparently he can go for €27 million next summer under the current contract so if Dortmund dont want him leaving for less than he is worth they may be selling him sooner than they would like............

Pretty much every Dortmund player has an eye on their next move, they just can't compete on wages.

So according to the bookies the EPL top 4 will finish up like this and in this order............

Chelsea (1.9/1)

City (2.4/1)

Man Utd (4.5/1)

Arsenal (6/1)

Im pretty surprised at that considering a ball has not been kicked and all transfers are not done just yet. Utd at 9/2 to win it is really crap odds. Its either the power of the betting fan base or the fear of the LvG factor.........or both

And yet if looking to place a bet on Liverpool getting in the top 4 you still have to place an odds on bet!

except, that's not according to the bookies, that's according to the money that's been placed at the bookies.

It's not quite the same thing. It's only "according to the bookies" before the betting has opened.

Fair enough point I suppose...........and I have no idea what the odds were when the market just opened.

It would suggest that a lot of folk believe that LvG will have a massive immediate positive impact and that Costa and Drogba are the answer for Chelski............I personally would not be in agreement with that money just yet.

Had a quick look

The bookies opened the market back in March.

They opened Utd at 5/1 (Moyes was still there and they would only give that!)

City 1.9/1

Chelsea 2.3/1

Those odds are not far off what they are now, but Chelsea and City have swapped places regarding favs.

Arsenal and Liverpool have seen massive swings in opposite directions since the markets opened 4 months ago and for obvious reasons.

LVG is no miracle worker, I see no evidenced to suggest at present that Man Utd will move ahead of Liverpool. Im not sure Herrera and Shaw are players who can push a team to a new level. It looks at present that both teams are struggling to attract their ideal targets and the next month of the transfer window will be crucial for both.

Have to say Herrera looks class.

I wouldn't say it's a case of man utd overtaking Liverpool, no one knows if it was a one of for Liverpool or a blip for United.

Time will tell if the United squad is really that bad or moyes was the issue.

Or Suarez was the issue...

I don't think you can read too much into a manager coming at the end, however giggs doesn't come across a natural manager to me.

all I'm doing is pointing out that with Moyes gone, nothing different happened. It strongly suggests that the issue was about more than just Moyes.

There was a lot of stuff that suggested the players were playing badly and unhappy because Moyes did things differently - and yet when Giggs took over and did things 'the fergie way' (after all, he doesn't know any other way) all of the same issues remained.

I'm not reading too much into anything. I'm merely going with the facts.

Although another fact is the season was over. This is also within the context of an upcoming world cup for many squad members, so priorities change. A major factor for Man utd poor season was poor player recruitment over a few transfer Windows, would be hard to blame that on giggs

Saying that I would turf out the whole class of 92. Football has moved on and so must man utd
