The Flaming Lips show at Bestival was anything but a 'greatest hits' set for non-fans. Wayne stood on a big plinth holding a bloody baby doll if I remember correctly. Very weird. Race for the Prize (massively slowed down) and Do You Realize?? were the only 'hits' played.

Has it gone back to being a bit more fun now? That changes whether I'd be interested in seeing them or not.

I honestly dont know what "hits" they have really. They are a band you either know or you dont aren they? I dont think a casual fan would know any songs at all! This was the setlist I got in May this year. I was happy with it anyway (though could have done with more pre-soft bulletin stuff as ever)

Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song, Do You Realize??, She Don't Use Jelly, Race for the Prize are all alternative 'hits'. People who aren't that into them specifically but do follow alternative music have usually heard those.

Still don't get this Florence headline status. Really can't see it.

Well they're British, state how much they love the festival and it seems the festival likes them too.

Not my thing musically and I think they work best inside a tent/club type venue.

Can't say they're not popular enough, and if a new album has a couple of belting songs I reckon they'll be there, given the past 2 years Sunday headliners.

I still think they'd have Adele before them though, if it was a choice.

Sundays on the pyramid, remember when they used to be good?

Headliners have gone from:

The Who

The Verve

Blur

Stevie Wonder

to

Beyonce

Mumford and Sons

Kasabian (I'll let them off 50% as I like some of their stuff)

fair dos. I cant recall ever hearing a flaming lips song anywhere in real life. Actually I think a couple of songs of at war with mystics got used in adverts now I think about it.

And then factor in that she would have almost certainly have a new album out by this time next year.

When has being awful ever stopped a terrible act of the right size and mainstream popularity headlining? :P

true

just living in the past with the older demographic i suppose! Couple of her songs are catchy and people (including Glasto) seem to like florence but when i seen her live she failed to live up to that standard.

Kasabian on the other hand seemed to go down well with the majority

I am not arguing with the record sales, it's just not something I could imagining happening, I might well be totally wrong like. I'd not be anywhere near it, not my thing. I don't get why people get so arsed about every Pyramid headliner slot though, there's always something elsewhere. Mumford & Sons was the pits last year, sat on my arse bored shitless and ruined.

If there's always something on elsewhere, why did you sit bored shitless while Mumford were playing?

why are people even mentioning the name Florence and the Machine, if she headlined it would have more of a negative reaction than Mumford and Kasabian put together. Just don't mention her name again or it might actually happen.

I think the headliner should be based on how good the act is live not the commercial success of how many single sales they have. Plus if the act turns out to be a rubbish headliner it could damage their reputation and future bookings.

Mumford and Kasabian were very popular headliners in the real world.
