Ah, right, Only time I've seen them was last year's(?) Glastonbury, was a perfectly pleasant 45 minutes on a sunny afternoon with a pint in my hand. I enjoyed it. No more no less.

Fair enough. Reckon that'd work headlining though? I mean, is it enough?

That's not to say they couldn't headline - see Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Kings of Leon, Coldplay for evidence of headliners of their ilk.

I dunno, I have fairly er... unconventional views on set lengths, headliners or otherwise, 45-60 mins is enough for anybody, pretty much. I can't think of ANY act I'd like to see do a 2 and half hour set or whatever, the thought of it gives me the screaming abdabs. Particularly at a festival. Get on, play a cracking 60 minutes, then piss off.

Alternatively, if you're Prince or the Grateful Dead, you can do 5 hours

Mardy I don't think I've ever been as disappointed with a post on this website.

I thought I knew you and you go and do that to me......

*slopes off to hug himself and sob quietly in the corner*

Its like when you find out Father Christmas is just your Dad eating the cookies with an excuse to leave the crumbs...

Even though do actually have a soft spot for the Vaccines, they have a couple of okish tunes but 20 minutes is more than enough of them. I am still disappointed by that post, I thought better of Mardy :P

If Wild Beasts can hit the big time with their next album ( Present Tense is brilliant ) they could be a possible , but it would be a few years yet.

I bet if the bookers at Glasto are told to get a newish British band headlining for the first time next year they could be struggling.

Saying that Leeds have gone back to the Arctics and V have gone back again for The Killers this year

The Vaccines are pretty shite but inoffensively so. it pains me to admit it but they do have a fair few songs that i rather enjoy (I Always Knew being one that springs to mind). definitely reckon they'll be making the jump up if their upwards trajectory continues with the next one or two albums. surely almost nailed on to headline Latutude next year. surprised Two Door Cinema Club got their first tbh (well, were supposed to)

I think they're bigger than TDCC and probably could've headlined Latitude this year if they were available and maybe even last year had Foals not done so. I think there's the chance that they could surpass Latitude and go straight for the bigger ones when they do drop an album but I've no idea what's going on with that.

I'd agree that on their next album, if it does as well as the first two, they'll probably be a bit too big for Latitude and are probably more likely to headline a major festival on it, though I think something like Bestival would be a good size for them.

To the person who mentioned Wild Beasts, as good as they are I don't think they'll ever get near headlining.

yeah Bestival is a good shout for The Vaccines. wouldn't be a great headliner but is definitely where i can see them next

agree about Wild Beasts. i thought they'd be on Other this year but they were once again bunged in the John Peel (and not in a particularly high spot, either) so it doesn't look like they'll be on the upper reaches of the lineup any time soon. would be weird to see them reach such heights considering how bizarre they initially seemed (although they've streamlined their sound somewhat now)

I think Wild Beasts could have made a jump after Smother, that seemed to be almost there, but if anythng, have takena bit of a step back

been thinking about this all afternoon, about how some acts are so close to being there and moving to the next level then, one or two misteps later, they're a long way away. Janelle Monae. Could have been a contender.

Where do people think Noel Gallagher would fit, assuming his new album has been released? I personally reckon he'd be a Pyramid sub. Can't see him headlining, but he's too big for anywhere else.

has Pyramid sub written all over him if he plays. the only place i could see him (some people say he could headline Other... but nah, i just don't see that)

I literally cannot wrap my head around the fact she isn't massive now. Seen her live twice and there is nothing else like it. Although the second album wasn't as good as the first, she should still have taken over the world with it.

Maybe she needs a new label.

So would he just stay at sub? Surely if his album goes to number 1, he'll be headline worthy at most, if not all, festivals.

can see maybe T giving him the bump up to headliner, but he's still basically an Oasis tribute act for most people, and would be getting the bump up based off of the merits of his previous band rather than his solo stuff. same situation with Jack White this year - definitely had the songs to headline, and his solo albums have been successful, but he still ain't The White Stripes

Hmm maybe it's good to round up who's been discussed.

So are we expecting at least one of these next year?

Muse

Florence + The Machine

Fleetwood Mac

AC/DC

Foo Fighters

Radiohead
Adele

just off the top of my head, I guess we could kinda cross one or two out already due to them being "impractical"

I dunno, just had a small burst of Glasto excitement :P

Yeah it's kinda like there's a ceiling for some acts. Could never see Jack White or Noel Gallagher headlining major festivals (bar Bestival) here and I don't reckon many others could either; they're just not acts on the rise.
