Peter Green... workmanlike? His songwriting.....workmanlike?

The band, with one of the greatest rhythm sections in Mick Fleetwood and John Mcvie.... workmanlike???

Reminds me of when people say The Beatles were nothing special

Haha, a friend of mine is still of the opinion that The Beatles are overrated !

No idea if this has been mentioned already, but does anyone think that take that are a possibility, if not next year, in future years? They seem like the kind of slightly curveball band that they might surprise people with and are unquestionably big enough to headline.

not after what happened earlier in the year, if you imagine the 'outrage' about Metallica and tripled it it wouldn't be half the outrage 'tax dodger' Barlow appearing on stage at 'morally perfect Glastonbury' would get

the tax dodging aspect is insignificant to the overall issue that Take That, were, always have been, and always will be, about as crap as any act pretending to have some musical ambitions could ever be

That's a bit harsh. Compared to some of the absolute, unbelievable toss masquerading as music in the charts in recent years, there have been odd moments Gary Barlow is almost John Lennon by comparison. Take That have occasionally produced some solid pop music. They're not my cup of tea, but I can appreciate that they can occasionally be pretty good at what they do.

Yeah, in terms of making catchy ballads. They're pretty inoffensive and far better than a lot of the shite that gets airplay.

That's about right. I've never really understood the ire for Take That. Save your rage for those who deserve it, current frontrunners being the Eagles (as ever) and Adult Jazz (new entry to the top 10 c**tdown).

I do worry that with all the 'big' bands being used up, the festival will continue to look beyond its usual style of act and that one day, Take That will indeed headline.

Robbie Williams ran away to Glastonbury when he was leaving the band because he couldn't think of a less 'Take That' kind of place!

yea, well, that baffles me too. Why are The Eagles so despised?

Cynical, contrived, phony, manufactured, business-like yet oh so arrogant are some of the reasons I've heard. Agree with a few of them.

To quote Tom Waits (who hated their cover of Ol 55): "They don't have cow shit on their boots. Just dog shit from Laurel Canyon".

I like a couple of their tunes. Saw them live before too. Decent show.

but they're not manufactured,

contrived..? not sure why

phony...same

they were a bunch of musicians playing music that they liked, as far as I remember

I think The Big Lebowski has a lot to do with some of the hatred

I just get the feeling they're very aware of their "market" and wrote songs like Life in the Fast Lane to cater to it. Truck drivers, mid America sort of thing. Post Crosby, Stills and Nash.

The history of The Eagles documentary doesn't exactly cement their legacy. Makes Frey look a total bully in parts. His "endorsements" don't help either. Selling any old tat for a few quid.

Its very over considered stuff. A bit like U2 are now.

Gahhh! I can't believe Foals played Hummer to the selfie-taking pricks at Bestival, I've not seen them play it since before TLF. It's a good job they didn't play Mathletics, I'd be round at Yannis' house, raging out and demanding to know why he thinks these bastards deserve fan service and I don't.

Anyone think Paul Simon and Sting co- show could be at glasto?

Would it headline, or do you think they could be convinced into a pyramid sub?

doesn't seem like the kind of thing that would translate well to a festival, what with them doing solo and joint songs. would be a lot of one guy leaving the stage and then returning a couple of songs later etc. plus Paul Simon only played a couple of years ago. plus their tour is in April
