I just love the fact he complained that the music industry aren't making new headliners (which is bollocks) and then when asked if he should feel obliged to book acts to headline their first UK festival he just goes no.

Fleetwood Mac I reckon. Saturday/Sunday free after first Manchester date, and they've just added a second date... on 1st July.

Dunno. Giddings doesn't book acts with big London dates and though they don't have one they are selling 80k tickets in the capital that month. Plus it could be that they're at another European festival. Does seem like a booking IOW would go for and much more likely than Glastonbury.

I doubt the London shows would matter too much if the other headliners, say Kasabian and The Strokes, were on exclusives.

They could be elsewhere I guess, but the only festivals that weekend are Pinkpop and Novarock I think. Obviously wouldn't fit Novarock and their arena date in Amsterdam probably rules them out of Pinkpop.

I guess so. They have shifted nearly 200k tickets now though and while acts have done stadium tours alongside IOW before, they probably haven't sold tickets for nearly as much as an IOW weekend ticket. You've got to wonder who's gonna buy IOW tickets to see Fleetwood Mac that haven't already. Them being free that weekend does seem to make a lot of sense considering how appropriate they'd be for IOW but it might be a poor move if they are.

Not entirely.

IoW now tries to avoid booking bands who have big London shows cos it hits their ticket sales, but if The Who were the best option available I'm pretty sure they'd get booked.

Like with KoL last year, if The Who are sandwiched in between two exclusives I'm sure BST Hyde Park won't cause much of a fuss

They've also got a Uk tour with two dates at the O2 where tickets are still available next month. Makes more sense to go with Fleetwood Mac out of the two, IMO (not that either are fantastic bookings)

Can't see it happening, having Muse at a festival like IOW would defeat the whole object of their booking at Download, drawing in general rock music fans

The Prodigy can get away with being booked for Sonisphere and Global Gathering because one crowd won't have any interest in the other, the distinction between IOW and Download isn't as clearly drawn

Are IOW / Download likely to share goers though? They are on at the same time too...

Yes, I went to IOW last year and because of Muse I'm probably going to be at Download this year

The fact that punters cannot physically be at both events exacerbates the issue

I was thinking that 3 in a row would be unlikely but forgot Download would be in the middle so yeah, think I was a bit quick to rule them out

I think what raw said about IOW and Download being in direct competition is true and I couldn't either booker wanting them doing both.
