Other Stage Headliners 2015

Los Campesinos! headlining the Pyramid. now that's a world i want to live in

They're my favourite currently active band, and I love the absolute arse off their live shows, but a big part of their appeal is that the gigs are a big joyous love-in full of similar weirdos bellowing all the lyrics. Everybody shows up in a band t-shirt, everybody knows all the words and goes mental for it. They're an odd little indie band who all have other full time jobs and only do the band thing on evening at weekends and have lengthy discussions with any fan who wants to pester them via social media or email. I find that I will definitely get along with any Los Camp fan, they unfailingly attract a certain sort of nerd, this doesn't apply to anybody other band. You see somebody wearing a Los Camp t-shirt, you get excited and shout something at that person. I like the weird little armpit of the world that we as Los Camp fans currently occupy, yet man Serge can keep his Pyramid headline slots, we'll keep the poky little venues.

weird that you say that: whilst watching St. Vincent this year a girl noticed a guy next to me wearing a Los Campesinos! t shirt and they started gushing to each other about them. i wanted to chime in but lost my nerve. damn

but i agree. Los Campesinos! have such a particular fun type of fan. i've rather shamefully never been to one of their own shows (saw them at Leeds fest in the NME tent). this must change

I didn't plan to turn this thread into a Los Campesinos! discussion, but I'm thrilled that it's happened :D.

They played 3rd from bottom on Other way back in 2008, and I don't see much reason they wouldn't have been booked somewhere (Park? William's Green, a la Young Knives?) in the intervening years without there being some sort of beef somewhere. Which if true, is a massive shame.*

They're fabulous, and yeah, definitely agree about the fans! Don't tell my parents, but half the reason I went to Cardiff Uni is because they formed there (the other half was that they film Doctor Who there ;)).

Anyone else torn between thinking they've just gone too far this time with the football metaphors on No Blues, or that they can't get enough of them?

*Just fished this out, from 2012. Not really sure what Gareth's on about tbh - is this a criticism? I don't know.

"And playing Glastonbury’s a ball-ache anyway, so yeah it’s good to be here [Reading].’

Glastonbury, a ball-ache? ‘Glastonbury’s too big. Glastonbury’s stopped being a music festival, it’s more a music fan festival. You get people who are like, ‘Yeah, I love music! I’ll go to Glastonbury.”

Well if he is saying what I think he is saying, then yeah I completely but Reading is also like that. So its a bit odd. (I think his on about people with more general fans of music than bands and stuff. The err "One album a year" crowd...but I am likely completely off.

They would be ace late evening at the park, opening the main stage at Reading felt a bit odd to. (Partly due to the size of the crowd to).

Yeah, covered that in my reply to scruffylovemonster - you got me there, they are now, seemingly, arena-sized :).

Whether James are fantastic live / adaptable / enjoyable is just as debatable as anything else.

'More deserving' - I think Los Campesinos! are a British band hugely deserving of a Glastonbury headline spot. Because I love them. I didn't reply to people talking about Sigur Ros with that, out of nowhere, though, because it's patently absurd and completely irrelevant. The same applies to James.

I think you might want to take up your objection to them being a Manchester band with basically any article ever written about them :P. Would you prefer 'Manchester-formed-and-based-and-heavily-associated-with-that-music-scene band'?

The funny thing is that I actually like Sigur Ros and have seen them live. I just son't think they are as good live as James but that maybe because most of the time I want to have a boogie and sing along when I watch a band live.

Sigur Ros are not that type of band and are one that you appreciate. In the right setting and in the right company then they are fantastic. I personally do not think a heafline set on the pyramid is that setting.

The disscussion yesterdayshocked me a little. I am really suprised at people comparing James to also ran Britpop bands. They are absolutely nothing like that.

In regards to the comments about my posts regarding Manchester bands. This is something I have thought about a lot recently in that I have asked myself whether I am biased in favour of Manchester bands. I do not think I am as my fave band are Depeche Mode, plus for 95% of my record collection I have no idea who made the records or where they come from. But from Buzzcocks through to Oasis, Manchester bands played a prominent role in pop music in this country so it is only right to comment on them.

you think? which ones? last time around they only co-headlined Reading and Leeds and subbed second stage at TITP, and that was amongst all the comeback hype. i'd have thought they'd be getting offered even lower slots these days, if any. subbing the likes of IOW seems most likely i'd say

And got completely embarrassed by Pulp who were unbelievable

James are brilliant! Their latest stuff is also brilliant. They must not be lumped in with other britpop dross.

But sigur ros are much more likely to get a high spot at glastonbury than james these days. I'm 100% certain.

You cant dismiss a band from high slots just because they're a bit po-faced.

When did James last play Glasto?

Got my hopes up properly now that they'll be there next year.

Haven't seen them in about 10 years.

Gutted to miss them in Belfast in summer 2013 and apparently they were ace, as if that needed confirming

fucking years ago! no idea why. I get my hopes up every year.

I would watch Sigur Ros before most of the rumoured headliners.

To be fair I am not overly bothered who is on next year. I am just going for the experience and to enjoy myself. I will go and watch all the bands I like at their individual gigs. I try to make an effort to experience new musics at festivals.

I think they will still be playing live next summer. I have a feeling that they may be at Kendall Calling again next year.
