I don't think BBC deserve to be lumped in as indie-tripe either. They're more creative than that.

I guess it can seem a bit too earnest and pretentious. They dont seem to have much fun at all. And the lead singer is a helmet.

Really? I've always thought they can be quite self aware and witty at times. If you asked me to name a painfully over-earnest musician I'd go for Frank Turner long before I'd go for The National.

They're supposed to be working on a new album so perhaps they could headline Other next year. That'd be lovely.

The National's lead singer does come across as a herbert but they do it for me..

As for James, well they're just one of the best bands of the last 30yrs ain't they.. There has to be some substance in the 'football' story, everyone bangs on about it but didn't realise Tim had played solo since.. Maybe the Eavii genuinely don't think there's enough interest in them anymore? Drop Emily a tweet...

Frank Turner is so shit that occasionally when one of his songs has come on the radio I've actually burst out laughing at how bad they are.

I think a more common reason for not liking The National would simply be that they're 'boring' or 'miserable'. Like how people say that about Radiohead.

Alt-J aren't boring and samey, but they are extremely overhyped which has intensified certain types of people's dislike of them. The fact that Pitchfork has not given them the best of reviews has probably increased this too. I don't think the likes of Alt-J have filled the void of the likes of Keane and the Fratellis, that's just a really bad comment.

Is that film any good? I've had it saved on the digibox for ages but not watched it yet. I'm not too fussed either way about the National's music but the reviews of the film caught my attention.

It's ok. But the brother is a bit of a "marmite" type character. If he's the sort of person that annoys you, you will not enjoy the film one bit. Personally, I found him quite endearing. There are some quite touching moments in it.

Worth giving a go if you are dead bored one rainy sunday afternoon I'd say.

TDCC = BBC = Alt J = incredible samey boring indie tripe.

I really don't see the comparison for alt-j. I agree they have been over-hyped and, unless they have become a much more polished live act since the last tour, they may struggle as an other stage headliner but i think their music has more depth to it than 2dcc (which really isn't difficult).

Unfortunately, if their music is actually good, they have been subject to some prejudgement from me, a grunge, industrial, metal-head. Possibly because they have been associated with the dull-as-dishwater indie 'gang' and that my sister, who has a far less energetic music taste than me, said that their 2013 set was boring.

Looks like a new vaccines album / tour is coming soon...

If alt-J are headlining the other I don't really know where the vaccines would fit on the lineup, surely they wouldn't have both as other headliners?

Matt Berninger is great. Very funny. People on the internet always seem to dislike people in bands I like, which is a shame.

'Indie' is such a vast term that different people take to mean different things. If you write off bands that people consider 'indie' you'll miss out on loads of great acts

Suppose they could sub, or not play at all in the unlikely event of somewhere like R&L bumping them up to headline.

Are the Vaccines really big enough to headline the other stage? I have a weird relationship with them, when I hear their name I always think I don't like them but I have to say I've enjoyed them live when I've seen them (supporting AM and the stones and I camped near the pyramid in 2013), also I liked the last standalone single they released.
