What a weekend

Start to finish it was absolutely perfect. As above, puts Reading to shame. The crowd were so chilled and so happy. Didn't see any trouble, made so many new friends, the acts were all spot on, food was good, even the toilets were nothing too bad. Just...wow.

The demographic hasn't changed much. That's why it doesn't sell out anymore. I did initially think that Ellis was a money grabbing fuck and that he was just being lazy and putting on cheaper lesser line ups but I have had my theory confirmed recently that DF has pissed off a sizable chunk of the music industry. He does try for better bands but gets told to fuck off. Basically, whilst he's in charge there will be a very small pool of bands being circulated.

I have voted with my feet. 4 festivals this year spending something like 3k in the process. If you're happy to spend proper festival money on a crap festival then fine but if you had the bollocks to vote with your feet too then GE and team would have to go. That way we might get proper headliners, diversity and more than 3 stages like we used to. T was my first festival and I love what it was until just 2 years ago. I know that they read here and so I'll continue to post my opinions for as long as it doesn't bore me. If you don't like it n00b feel free to fuck right off.

It was better back in the day though ive been for 13 years in a row and was much better when i first went look at some of the bands they had and now the past 3 years the saturday headliner has been a dance act when did they decide to give that slot to a dance act, thought thats what the slam tent was for, now im not saying dance is bad its not for me though but there were bands that could have filled that slot eg the libertines or arcade fire or kasabian 3 big bands of the moment

lets just remember, t in the park has had Oasis playing, a band that would on their own sell out t in the park in this day, older line ups are better. However I will contradict myself and say everyone has different artists they like so technically you can't have a good line up, just a line where there may or may not be bands that you like

Music has changed and so has the festival. The sooner people realise this the better.

T books what's popular and what suit's it's demographic, if you cant accept that it's time to move on to a festival the suits you better.

I'd say the T demographic did shift slightly in 2012. 2011's lineup was probably the best the festival has ever had. You had 7 or 8 headline sized bands playing (Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Pulp, Beyonce, My Chemical Romance, The Strokes) and plenty of big names lower down the bill too (Tom Jones, Bruno Mars, Weezer, Blondie etc). Then the 2012 lineup simply didn't live up to its predecessor (which, to be honest, it was never going to do). The booking of a high number of pop acts for the first time, as opposed to the usual 'token' acts throughout the weekend (Nicki Minaj, The Wanted, McFly, Cher Lloyd, Jessie J, Olly Murs, Dappy, Stooshe, Rita Ora) meant that those who attended for the big rock and indie acts performing the previous year simply didn't buy tickets. If you factor in a poor set of headliners for that demographic then it is clear to me that they simply would not buy tickets. Meanwhile, those who did enjoy the pop and dance acts of the previous year (such as Beyonce, Ke$ha, Swedish House Mafia, Deadmau5) were more than satisfied with this lineup so some tickets were sold to existing T goers. But through losing that crucial rock demographic in 2012 changed the path of the festival in future years. After the 'pop' fans dominated in 2012, it was clear that this was a path that the festival would continue to go down. Speaking from the rock fans I know, some who were there in 2011 wouldn't even consider buying a ticket these days.

With the festival not selling out instantly for the first time in recent memory, it opened the door to a new demographic. With the recession, people who would usually go away on holiday to a party resort over the summer were looking for something cheaper. T filled that gap in 2012 for a lot of people with its dance heavy lineup. I'd include school leavers in this demographic too. For the first time, people who wouldn't usually have got a ticket in the mad scramble were able to ponder going to the festival.

Each year, the average age of the punters seems to have gotten younger too meaning that some of the big acts who performed in 2011 wouldn't even be relevant to many of the crowd (Pulp, Weezer, Blondie to name but a few).

I think after 2011's lineup, people were always going to be disappointed with 2012.

Fucking hell, you get a couple of people coming on to say how good a weekend it was and a few positive comments, and you get you grumpy old bastards moaning about it. For me, another brilliant weekend, a good lineup, loved every minute. Times change, festivals change. If things didn't change, imagine the state of the world. Move on and deal with it
