I heard Rammstein were at Download. There is no way LoG will sub Download however unless it was 2nd stage. I hope Soni doesn't go ahead as that means I'll have to do 3 major festivals in England in Jun/Jul and that's tough going.

 

I think we have our wires crossed here. I was talking about Sonisphere.

 

My friend told me that the bands he's seen for Sonisphere look like typical Download bands, not that they will be playing Download.

 

I think the point he was getting at was that it looks like a safe lineup.

We have no cross wires at all. If what your friend has seen, is indeed a soni line up, then the info I got was wrong. LoG subbing would suggest the latter is true.

Spoke to a friend of mine the other day and he seems to think Rammstein are headlining Sonisphere next year, he also said Lamb of God will be subbing one of the days. He said he's seen some more of the bands and it looks like a Download lineup. Not sure where he got that from, but thought I'd share.

I think this may be one of the first signs of the apocalypse.

I saw the rammstein rumour on the German forum RingrockerGary, was a chap talking about them supposedly doing Rock in Vienna and Soni Switzerland so far with more TBC (both are DEAG/Kili events). About a week ago Rock in Vienna did say they had "a big fish on the hook" aswell, so may be some truth in it, or it may he BS. Though soni's fb posted a picture for the first time in ages as well last week to boot so is showing some signs of activity. Wouldn't get too excited for a UK event though just yet.

Rammstein are 'back on' according to their Facebook. If - in addition to Sabbath, Maiden and BMTH - Rammstein, Linkin Park, SOAD, Def Leppard and Bon Jovi are touring next summer as rumoured, there does seem a lot for Sonisphere to go for.

Speaking of Sonisphere, I'm not certain but one of the remaining Sonispheres - Switzerland - apparently seems to have been ditched and Iron Maiden and Rammstein are being hosted at another event in the country under DEAG's 'Allmend Rockt'.

 

Naw it's still soni Swiss, allmendt rock is the venue name afaik

Yeah I just had a quick look and the official FB has a poster without any Sonisphere branding for Rammstein, and Sonisphere across the top for Iron Maiden. Fuck knows what's making them do it like this. It'd be cool as shit if there could be a "Sonisphere presents..." festival in the UK where they branch out from offering the dregs of Download's lineup, but then again when you look at DEAG booking Iron Maiden and Rammstein for every festival across Europe, that doesn't seem all that likely.

 

I think there was talk of that at one stage tbf but as you say they generally end up with the usual lot as its who they work with most so not sure how feasible it is in reality as much as I'd prefer it to be more varied

 

Just wondering with Allmend Rockt having one day (Maiden) that's 'presented by Sonisphere' and the other (Rammstein) day left alone, is it any more than a contractual obligation at the moment to use the Sonisphere name? Moreover, could they do a festival at Knebworth and have one single 'Sonisphere presents' day on the main stage where all the metal is? Keeps metal fans happy for one day without much of a departure and houses it in a more varied festival.

I mean, it wouldn't be 'very different'. In my head it'd be identical to when people used to say about a metal day at R+L, alongside acts that R+L used to book.

It's just a pipe dream as to what they could do to continue at Knebworth really with them seemingly stepping away from the Sonisphere brand. The other day at that Swiss festival being headlined by Rammstein but not 'Sonisphere' doesn't really back up my point for it being an alternative on the other days.

R+L have rock and metal over the whole weekend. I wouldn't go just for one day of music I liked and a day of chart pish. It would be better if it was spread out so there was always something I liked on. Just my opinion (but also my wallet). I suspect the swiss thing is underhand tactics to destroy the smaller brand by allowing them to have a contracted band only if they provide a clean venue.

In regards to the naming, I believe K2 (the agency) own the sonisphere name or co-own it with kili, they also represent the likes of Maiden and so probably request that its put on there - the name Sonisphere was also on the sponsors section of the posters and stage banners at Rockavaria and Rock in the area last year probably because of Metallica (another K2 act).  So I would hazard a guess at it being down to them, I guess the brand has been semi successful to in quite a few Euro countries so might be a bit more trusted by people than a brand new event entirely. This would also explain the naming on Maiden's booking but not R+.

 

In regards to a more varied festival an approach I'd like would be big Metal or hard rock band (Metallica, SOAD, Maiden, Rammstein, Linkin Park Slipknot ACDC etc..) through to smaller guys like A7X, BMTH, Tool, Kiss, Faith No More.  Big Rock act (RHCP, Arctic Monkeys, KoL, green day, Foos, Biffy, Muse ,Arcade Fire etc..) through to smaller but more established and less poppy rock acts like your Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins QotSA NIN etc.. who have a good crossover appeal between Harder rock and Metal fans and General rock fans - especially bands like SP and Pixies Reading would be hesitant to book as headliners these days.  I'd love something that could pick 3 from the above and have a nice varied undercard.  The balance would be important though in making something that didn't go too heavily in one direction.  It also wouldn't have to go down the more poppy/radio 1 route reading has decided to venture down.  If sonisphere could do that then great as its a brilliant location and top ran event on the weekend, but I'm not sure it'll happen.
