st dan
I can't believe Matt thought anybody in the world would enjoy Drones (the song) It's just .. I don't even know what it is. Other than the worst closing track to an album ever. It sounds like a bloody Christmas carol! On reflection it's not actually too bad. No worth than the last two albums, possibly even better then them.
justanothername
The only two songs I really like are Reapers and The Handler, the rest is meh or I don't like. But it isn't the worse album this year and even though I hate Revolt it isn't the worse I've heard this year (or even today for a fact) Did someone in here liken 'Revolt' to The Killers?I can definitely hear that which does put me off a bit but as I said,I think it will sound better in a big show setting with everyone bouncing along. Yeah I did. The chorus really minded me off These Things I've Done which isn't something I don't want to be reminded of when I'm listening to Muse. The Placid Casual
Defector could easily of gone on Showbiz For fuck sake.
Matt42
As I said on Twitter to will Cool album concept Cool theming Nice "back to basics idea" Playing harder festivals - harder image Good time between 2nd Law, good time to try out something interesting What the hell went wrong? When, where, how, who, what was responsible?
Gucci Piggy
What the hell went wrong? When, where, how, who, what was responsible? Always, everywhere, in every way, Matt Bellamy, did things.

FloorFiller
Why is it getting really good reviews? i see that Kerrang have given it 5K's which is just classic Kerrang really, but where else has it gotten really good reviews? album seems prime for critical slaying
dentalplan
For fuck sake. I think if it was change slightly it could be on Showbiz. Maybe Absolution would be an easier fit but it has that good The Bends-lite quality that the first few records had so I see the point. Mash011
i see that Kerrang have given it 5K's which is just classic Kerrang really, but where else has it gotten really good reviews? album seems prime for critical slaying Looking forward to the Pitchfork review - their review of T2L summed it up pretty well: With dramatic flair, he intones "your true emancipation is a fantasy," which... OK. But "the time..." Go on. "...it has come," that "it," perfect. "To destrooooyyyyyy..." Destroy what? Make sure you put your drink down as Bellamy screams "YOUR SUPREMACYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!" because all of a sudden having The 2nd Law only in audio form feels pathetically inadequate-- next time you will place it against footage from Starship Troopers, although the closest visual equivalent to this batshit moment is a dinosaur with a cowboy hat manning a F-15 and blowing evil aliens to bits while scoring the game-winning touchdown in the Super Bowl. thewayiam
Mercy and The Handler I think are the best tracks on the album, there might be one more that is okay, that's about the brunt of it. Drones as everyone has said is a needless track. I'm amused they have tried to pass some added in basses as a heavy album lol. I do think it's the worst case scenario to hit Download predicting it to bomb is a nice way of putting it. I'll be quite happy just catching the last 50 mins at Download. justanothername
i see that Kerrang have given it 5K's which is just classic Kerrang really, but where else has it gotten really good reviews? album seems prime for critical slaying They wont give any popular acts below a 3 and they rarely do that as it is mainly 4 or 5 if it is a really popular band like Sleeping With Sirens (Feel and Sunbather both came out in the same week and got the same rating) regardless of quality. justanothername
Why is it getting really good reviews? Metacritic for the past two albums The 2nd Law Critic - 70/100 User - 6.8/10 Resistance Critic - 72/100 User - 8.1/10 Don't really trust review websites anymore

When, where, how, who, what was responsible? I haven't listened to it yet, surprisingly, but I was concerned when they chose to work with the AC/DC producer. They'd have been better off working with someone who has produced a band like Deftones

Maybe Absolution would be an easier fit but it has that good The Bends-lite quality that the first few records had so I see the point. I think it's far and away from the quality that came out of Showbiz, even with slight changes. Even the worst songs on that album are far better than Defector. I think the song is okay, but nothing more.
The Placid Casual
By the way, near enough all the Muse fans on my Facebook wall are raving about the album. Make of that what you will.

I'm in some Facebook group for the album for some reason, and they've banned discussion about it until it's released (apparently spoilers for an album is a thing), but they were saying reaction on the board is all negative. Although the little bit I read on there didn't seem to bad.
Ipayne
Have listened to the album a few more times to get my head round it, has definitely grown on me. Especially Aftermath, Defector and surprisingly Revolt. Drones, Mercy and the last section of The Globalist are still dreadful mind. Would probably say I now prefer it to The Resistance overall due to their being more songs I like on this. I'm one of the weirdo's who loved T2L though
metallimuse
I'm the 6th play I think now having got it on my phone for when out and about. Really enjoy it. I think even if you don't like the songs, after a few listens you can tell it really is a more stripped back classic sound. It's all drums, bass, guitar other than 'Dead Inside'. Like all of it other than 'Drones' obviously and not that fond of 'The Globalist' either.'Revolt' has grown on me and I would be happy to hear everything else in a set list. I wouldn't join a Facebook group for an album at all actually. I'm the 6th play I think now having got it on my phone for when out and about. Really enjoy it. Do people actually consider guitar, bass and drums as the "classic sound"? There have been plenty of pianos/organs/synths on albums since day one. Drones must be one of the worst songs ever. Imagine somebody saying they enjoyed it. Suppose it only really serves as an outro though so I can't see it coming up much.

I follow some obsessives on Twitter who like the song Drones. Fuck knows how. They're the Muse equivalents of Martin Ashford, though, and would enjoy absolutely anything that Muse put out.
