CaledonianGonzo
you've not heard anything by the Foo Fighters? The statistical probabilities say that I have, but my brain and my ears say that I haven't. I don't trust the latter, but I sense that they're terying to protect me. Yes they are a rock band but no heavier than many others who are not deemed heavy.
eFestivals
Foo Fighters have headlined every other mainstream festival there is. If anything it's a very safe (boring) booking for Glastonbury. Although they may be considered heavy I would say their fan base transcends that. They're about the only traditionally 'heavy' band I can think of with that cross over in appeal.Yep, they do have that cross-over appeal, but 'heavy' is still less liked by the mainstream despite that. It's more about the impression that two 'heavy' bands creates. Foos and AC/DC as headliners are like Reading/Leeds headliners - and that's far less liked by 'mainstream' people than Glastonbury is, and its always the headliners that are the main topic of conversation for 'those on the outside'. ghostdancer1
Foo Fighters aren't a "heavy" band really. lots of their songs get played on radio stations here that play mostly top 40 chart pop.... they're a mainstream rock band. BonScott
AC/DC are not very heavy anyway They are more a blues rock band, few of their songs are what one would really describe as heavy, they are more a decent Status Quo

It's all opinion of course but I would say Metallica last year alone was far more of a risky / left field move than a potential DC/Foos combo. giantkatestacks
Am going to get pasted for this but for me (although they are legends) I find their persona, crowd and stage show a complete turn off. Bordering on the actively needing to avoid. Edited December 12, 2014 by giantkatestacks

As individual acts they are more like the acts booked to headline Reading/Leeds but I think the people being touted for the third headliner slot would distance it a long way from Reading/Leeds in terms of a lineup. The likes of Elton, Swift and probably even Florence wouldn't get a look in at headlining Reading/Leeds.
BonScott
Don't see it happening though AC/DC are the biggest actual band (instruments) in the world, and Friday might be a bit beneath them, it would have to be Saturday or nothing, no way would the Stones have done Friday and AC/DC are bigger than them

Mainstream revolves around "the middle", and Foos are off to the side of the middle. When you add in another band who are even more off to that same side, that moves Glastonbury well away from the middle that it's traditionally lived in. cwaite123
This year we had three guitar based bands headline, but one of the main talking points was dolly talked of like a headliner. Likewise this year I can easily see the likes of Swifty being booked in a sub or below spot and talked of as a headliner and detracting from the fact they have three bands as headliners. Essentially I think we put too much emphasis on the headliners when any act high up on the Pyramid could be talked about the most. Pretty sure Ed Sheerans set was one of the highest viewed on the BBC too. So I think the Eavi look at the pyramid line up as a whole rather than just the three at the top a lot more than what we think they do. A Guy Called Matt
The 'A Bigger Bang' tour was the second biggest tour of all time. The Rolling Stones have sold around the same amount of records despite DC's one huge album I'm not denying that AC/DC are huge (who would?), but to say they're bigger than the stones is ridiculous I think both are massive bands with massive support and sales. Both can and do sell out massive stadium tours. The arguement as to who is biggest is more down to if you like them or not. I can give the Stones a miss though they are quite good - just my opinion. I love AC/DC So for me AC/DC are the bigger band. To others it is different.
The Placid Casual
I love the both, so by that logic, they're pretty much equal
CaledonianGonzo
Depends which variable you're measuring them on. You could cut the cake a number of ways to 'prove' that one is bigger than t'other, but I suspect that AC/DC as a Glasto headliner would be less of a big deal.
