The best artist(s) to never have played Glastonbury?

Maiden? Could smash a headliner set after G&R showed there’s an appetite for riffs.

Second the Carole King and Joni Mitchell shouts. Bryan Adams, Randy Newman and Billy Joel could also be fun.

The Pyramid was empty, hardly much of an appetite

Prince is the only answer...

Ah the best set that never was.

He came close in 2011 & 2015. We can blame Hop Farm festival for throwing silly money at him in 2011 to draw him away. Not sure who we can blame for 2015, I think he just decided it wasn’t for him. Such a shame, he would have killed it. Especially in 2011 with Beyoncé subbing as was the original plan.

Wasn’t the story that he saw the backlash to Kanye’s booking and feared similar for himself so bailed? One day I’m gonna track down Neil Lonsdale and make him pay for what he took away from us.

I remember hearing that. Didn’t Emily say it was because the papers got hold of it and he thought they were using his name to sell tickets?

Ah yeah I think that was the official reason given. A shiter either way, especially with him passing the following year. So close.

Yes, now you’ve said that I remember that quote. Silly really, somebody should have explained to him how the festival worked.

I think we have to blame The S*n for that one. They got hold of the story IIRC.

Tom Waits is the best one, though can't blame the festival for that one, dude doesn't play anywhere.

Wonder what kind of spot he would do? Legends spot? Part of me thinks he should be high as possible being, you know, Tom f**king Waits and a strong contender for the best musician in human history (at least for me). But on the other hand, he notoriously doesn't have any hits or singalongs (and the few he does have - mostly because other artists covered them - he never plays), and this will surely be the weirdest and most experimental legend slot ever lol.

If people were able to make Prince understand how things worked then the silly bugger would still be alive tbh

Fiona Apple. Unlikely though.

One of the greatest ever to do it but he'd never give someone else that much control.

He still sounds great though

Good call. And if Tom does grace the pyramid stage (or any other festival in the U.K.) the drinks are on me! A dream booking but sadly unlikely I’m afraid. I don’t think he likes touring much and I’m sure I read somewhere he doesn’t like festivals.
