Like to think I was the only man at SZA supping John Smith's, but I suspect not. Between a three-and-four-star affair for me, but with full props to a band that massively improved her sound live and gave it the heft it required. Went in expecting little, especially given that lacklustre crowd beyond the initial gantries, and those early problems - echo-mic feedback, relatively unengaged connection past the immediate periphery, the sparse sound of crickets and departing campers - left me braced for a rough one. But glad I stuck it out and was gradually won over; when she's got the moment to give a good vocal, she certainly did, and some of the songs - F2F was the highlight - worked a treat. Crowd size does not correlate to quality, of course, but will say that her and Burna Boy probably came out in the bottom two of headliners/subs in both categories. Was surprised how impressive the LCD Soundsystem crowd looked to be from my point in the throng. -
Or just wait until the queues go away and then go in. Gate A was empty when we got there in the afternoon. And I had a proper nights kip the night before. Woke up at 8am.

We wanted to join D but were directed to the A queue at 7:45 and didn’t get wristbanded until 13:15… I knew we were arriving at peak time but 5+ hours of shuffling in the queue in that heat was horrific. It didn’t help that we had lots of first timers with us who I had to keep reassuring it would be over soon and didn’t normally happen! Then when we finally got to the end of the pen, the steward said they had no idea we had been out there for so long… not great communication in the heat!

Really well-written and echoes a lot of stuff my group were talking about across and after the weekend. I think 'THE LICENSE' is going to be a blocker to much of this BUT the writer is absolutely spot-on that something needs to be done now or else we're headed for a potentially dangerous Glastonbury that doesn't work for anyone. It's not all the late-night areas either – the main stage bookings need to be given full consideration here. Some absolutely head-scratching scheduling going on every year now, and most of it is completely avoidable. Sugababes... always going to be rammo... why not have them open the Pyramid on Friday? Kick the weekend off with a bang in a f**king huge field that'll get a big crowd. Avril... was always going to be chaos. Pyramid should have been the spot – if that means you don't get Janelle Monae at the festival, so be it. Justice... with four other samey headliners, was always going to be rammed. Fully echo what's been said on here about getting major dance acts on earlier in the day as well. -

I ddin't mind the set but I will say Shania was lucky that Cyndi sounded even worse.
